Doom 3 to be capped at 60 FPS

um who cares.. It is almost definate that there would be a workaround anyway...

Possibly so, but why do it anyway... Quake 3 is still a damn popular benchmark, due to its high scalability, and absence of limits like this. I find it hard to believe this is the case, ID Software would prolly not lock themselves out to upcoming new cards. Come on, Doom is not even shipped yet, and a lot of cards can do 60 fps in the leaked alpha. And considering that ATi and nVidia will be releasing new cards probably in Q2 2004, I bet those will be way above the mentioned 60 FPS cap. Plus it's Inquirer after all  .

who wrote this? capped doesnt mean that you cant run lower framerates.. actually most of us WILL ron lower than 60 fps. we just wont go above

Its something to do with some of the effects, cant remember what. So basically speed in Doom3 is no longer an issues long as you can run at least 60FPS. Its unlikely any new card will have an advantage.

who cares??? that only means it will not go any faster than 60 fps. 60 fps is nice for a game, plus 60 is a cap, that doesnt mean it will go lower if your computer have the potential to run 60 fps in it in every situation.
El_Coyote
you dont think that the CAP could be removed in the games benchmark feature and not in real gameplay?

Rather ironic decision really. Doom 3 is intended as single player, with basic multiplayer support, as iD have stated. So, errrm, it seems like an odd decision to make considering out of the box it won't really affect anyone as it did in Quake 3. Sigh.
