Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil Preview

Callin Doom 3 a breath of fresh air for the franchise is a joke, CHRIST DO NOT GIVE US MORE OF THE SAME IN THE EXPANSION! If they do they'll be pretty much marking the grave of the Doom franchise, but I doubt they really want to make another one since it's gone in this really bad direction. My guess is that they'll keep it going in that direction and like pretend that they meant to ***** up what could have been an amazing game, hoping that people will nod and go "OH ya thats what Doom 3 was MEANT to be, a really mediocre shooter".

You can imagine the design meeting for how they came up with the stuff for this expansion. How can we improve on the dull, repetitive, mind numbing experience that is Doom 3? Silence. Hey, how about coming up with tacky ways of adding in features from other games. Yeah, that could work. People like slow motion. Ohh, yeah, but lets give it a twist, instead of being some inate ability we'll have him use it via this pulsating heart - Scary & cool at the same time! What about a gravity gun. Yeah, that could work too, the original game was already full of barrels & other movable, yet non-destructible items. We can leave it lying around an engineering section you never visited in the original game. But, get this, you can deflect the projecticles from this certain enemy & even better, we'll make it the only way to defeat this 1 boss in the game. We could also borrow a double barrel shotgun from all our other games. Genius!

I just don't get one thing... for me, HL2 was repetative like crazy. You ran through the whole game doing the exact same thing you did when you saw the first enemy, you shot him. Then you shot some more of those combine soldiers... and some more... throw in a Strider for good measure, then rinse and repeat. Don't say that the story was "oooh oooh soo good!", because it just blew. You never knew what the hell you were doing or even why you wanted to kill these aliens. Even if it all explained in the sequal, atleast they could tell you something... anything... HL2 got "god-like-glory" status, where as Doom 3 got "same old, same old" status. Beats me. Doom 3 was a bit too dark for most, that I can agree with... but it did have great atmosphere all round. This expansion is going to be more of the good stuff if you ask me, the gravity gun aside, it looks great.

thx Cimlite that so true ... HL2 was far from beeing the best game very ... the physics engine is awesome the graphics are good but NO one can ever tell me the story was extreme deep it was plain there was ALWAYS only one open door ... only one way and now way to influence the acting in any way despite not pluggin the powercable in the labs

btw ... I don't want to say the story of D3 was much better but at least you had some optional elements and a story that was clear ... and the atmosphere was the best up to now ... totally dark ... awesome sound ... which at max 5% of all D3 gamers experience due the lack of a true sound system or the house to fully turn it on ... to enjoy D3 its got to be totally dark in room and you got to max out your subwoofer ... then the game is just awesome then you do not think ... "how stupid now the creep spawns here and there" then you go ... SPAAAAAWWWWWNNN !!!!! cause the spawn sound is simply awesome

I hated HL2 too repetitive and lack of atmosphere. Doom 3 reminded me more of the original HL than 2 did. I'm PROUD to say I'm a Doom 3 fan and look forward to this.

I played both Doom3 and HL2 from start to finish, and enjoyed them both. Enjoy the game, quit complaining all the time, both game were fun.
