If I look at the hardware from this generation now I would say nVidia has the good hardware and software...

ti's not so much a game as an engine, the majority of FPS's (and a few other games) for the last 10 years have been based on the engines from either id, or epic (UT). if a card performs poorly on the first game of that engine, then it will likely really suck for all subsequent games using that engine.

I really doubt that a lot of people will be using the Doom 3 engine. The Unreal 2 engine and Half life 2 will probably be used the most, seeing as they run well on a lot of systems. and ATI performs well on both of them.
