A friend of mine has a store bought copy of XP Home. He's had many hardware upgrades and recently a hard drive replacement and a reinstall of the OS. Tried to activate it online and it said "sorry, been activated too many times". Had to call Microsoft. I think it transferred me to India by the sound of the line quality and the persons accent. I had to read off like a 20 digit number; then he asked what the reason was for and I told him hardware upgrade. Then he read back off a 20 digit number. It was a 'painful', tedious, time consuming ordeal. Once enough people have to experience that, I think people might be annoyed to say the least. The event has me really looking into Linux and Apple as a replacement to using MS products. I wish those mini macs would go on sale.
