That caught my attention as well so I went to the CC site, and the "ad free" was still on their banner so I downloaded the new version and, indeed, there's no garbage on it. Looks like Geeks messed up on this one.

To give a Masterlies like response - "cripple" can be defined as; "A person or animal that is partially disabled or unable to use a limb or limbs." Using CCleaner to remove old prefetch data in no way cripples an application.

The standard version is definitely Adware it includes the Yahoo Toolbar.

Cleaning Browser related temp items only effects the browser cache. And since most pages change daily this is irrelevant. CCleaner irresponsibly removes Prefetch files based on a date stamp that has nothing to do with whether the application is still installed or not. This is not only pointless but it cripples the applications cold launch times for the Prefetch files removed. Since Windows XP self cleans this folder it makes this even more useless. The scarey part comes down to once the NTFS last access date check it disabled then CCleaner deletes the whole folder.

Spoken by someone completely ignorant of how Windows Prefetching works. Do you also intentionally fragment your HD too every so often? How about randomly turning off your CPU cache? Maybe you would be a sucker for this too if it was a useless option on a program like CCleaner.
