I had been using the old 5.x CP with the 6.x CATS and had no problems. But the fact that ATI no longer supplies the CP tells you their direction; CCC. Since the way CCC does it thing is different then the way CP does it, my guess is that one day setting options via CP won't work anymore. Not to mention any new options ATI provides which will be made to CCC. So for now CP might be an alternative but don't count on it. You could also grab a copy of Ray Adam's ATI Tray Tools and use that as your CP. Ray has coded a CCC compatibilty mode which sets all the options the way CCC would.
