I hate system requirments for games, you think ya system will handle it but when u try it its jerky and slow in places.

There shouldnt be a whole lot of difference between a 64 3500+ and a 3000+ barton.. and it would be nice to mention what resolution and settings you are trying to run at. Try scanning for spyware, closing unneeded applications, defrag, tweaking some options. Runs fairly good on a 9800 pro at 1280 resolution on medium. Cpu is athlon xp 2.3ghz (about 3200+).
