Audiogalaxy - The Next P2P Victim!

Audigalaxy Inc., the Austin, Texas, company behind the Audiogalaxy.com peer-to-peer music file sharing service, is to pay music publishers "a substantial sum" and filter out copyright songs from its service as a result of an out-of-court settlement reached with representatives of the U.S. music recording and publishing industry on Monday. As part of the settlement, Audiogalaxy has agreed to block sharing of all songs over its network until permission to share them has been explicitly granted by the songwriter, music publisher and/or recording company, according to a statement by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) on the RIAA's Web site. Winamp also has a number of popular plug-ins for visualization (cool effects that synchronize with the music), input, output, and other purposes. Nullsoft today has re-uploaded the files. The changelog does not reveal any new features, though.

Following the great history of GNU naming, LAME originally stood for LAME Ain't an Mp3 Encoder. LAME started life as a GPL'd patch against the dist10 ISO demonstration source, and thus was incapable of producing an mp3 stream or even being compiled by itself. But in May 2000, the last remnants of the ISO source code were replaced, and now LAME is the source code for a fully GPL'd MP3 encoder, with speed and quality to rival all commercial competitors. According to an article at BetaNews Nullsoft is considering to introduce a payware version of the next major release of WinAmp which will have extended features compared to the free version. That this has not already happenend may be the benefit of Nullsoft's parent company AOL Time Warner. Morpheus Preview Edition 1.3.1.1 Released!

StreamCast formerly known as MusicCity has released the first Gnutella based preview edition of their P2P filesharing utility after the last FastTrack based version was locked out of the network by some strange protocol change. Two of the main advantages are the ability to search both the WWW and the world wide Morpheus/Gnutella Network. In addition, the number of search results has been increased from 200 to an unlimited number.
The new version has not been officially announced but is available for download @ CNET. It is not clear if users need to re-register or if the old registrations work with the new client software. According to StreamCast this version is ad and spyware free. Update: Seems CNET got the version number wrong. The about menu shows 1.3.1.1.

It's a tool that treat a directory of MP3 files as an Audio CD and access a FreeDB (CDDBp) server to retrieve information about the MP3 files. Can rename and/or ID3-tag the files based on the information retrieved.

It displays MP3 type (VBR/CBR) and bitrate and also includes a structure checker to verify the MP3 files. The list of CDDBp servers can be edited and it is even possible to configure the program to access a local CDDBp server.
