According to french site Inpact-Hardware the recently announced new MadOnion benchmark, which is scheduled for a release tomorrow at noon, and now officially named PCMark2002 will be similar to SiSoftware Sandra measuring components performance. Related link: MadOnion

StreamCast formerly known as MusicCity has released the first Gnutella based preview edition of their P2P filesharing utility after the last FastTrack based version was locked out of the network by some strange protocol change. Two of the main advantages are the ability to search both the WWW and the world wide Morpheus/Gnutella Network. In addition, the number of search results has been increased from 200 to an unlimited number.
The new version has not been officially announced but is available for download @ CNET. It is not clear if users need to re-register or if the old registrations work with the new client software. According to StreamCast this version is ad and spyware free. Update: Seems CNET got the version number wrong. The about menu shows 1.3.1.1.

As Morpheus is built on KaZaa software, which has received some significant changes, the Musiccity.com P2P filesharing is not able to log on to the server network. Musiccity is working on a new version of its software which will be released shortly. To read the announcement hit read more.

Nothing new with Winamp I believe, but this is another one of those bundles with a skin and a song included.

LAMEr is a Win32 GUI front end for the LAME freeware MP3 encoder.LAMEr takes out all the hazzle of encoding files with LAME - including ID3 tagging of the encoded files. You select the files to encode via a standard file requester, adjust the parameters, enter the ID3 tags (separately available for each file, a very rare feature among other front ends), and the only thing left is hitting the "Encode" button!

Fan Player has various interfaces and some of them will gently surprise you. One of them is aimed for using Winamp skins. It's a tool that treat a directory of MP3 files as an Audio CD and access a FreeDB (CDDBp) server to retrieve information about the MP3 files. Can rename and/or ID3-tag the files based on the information retrieved.
