A Conversation with Terry Welsh of Really Slick Screensavers @ Extensiontech

Published by Newsfactory 0

Terry Welsh, in my opinion, is quite an artist, OpenGL programmer, and more importantly, which we'll be focusing more on here, an OpenGL screen saver creator. Think 3D psychedelic screen savers, and you are now in the frame of mind to enjoy Terry's work. I've been a fan for more years than I can count. Ok, wait, I can count to 6. Anyway, it brings me great pleasure to introduce you to someone who is very talented, and if you aren't familiar with his work, after this interview, you will be. Terry also just released his latest screen saver. Trust me, you'll want to check that out!

An evening with Googles' Marissa Mayer

Published by [NT] 1

3 days ago, Alan Williamson was invited by Marrisa Mayer (Product Manager of google) to BayCHI lecture at PARC to talk about google. He was in a room with her and he got some good facts about google. Two cool facts I found intersting was: "The name 'Google' was an accident. A spelling mistake made by the original founders who thought they were going for 'Googol' & The prime reason the Google home page is so bare is due to the fact that the founders didn't know HTML and just wanted a quick interface. Infact it was noted that the submit button was a long time coming and hitting the RETURN key was the only way to burst Google into life.".

''Dance to the iPod Shuffle? Not Likely!'' Says Creative

Published by [NT] 1

Creative have responded to Apple's launch of the iPod Shuffle - a flash based mp3 player - with some interesting thoughts and insight: "I’m delighted Apple joined the flash party but, I’m surprised it’s taken Jobs so long. You have to hand it to him, entering the market with a statement about pioneering the ‘shuffle’ function is certainly a bold move that will grab headlines – the problem is it isn’t quite true." Futuremark Interview

Published by Newsfactory 0

3DVelocity have bagged themselves an interview with Futuremark:

How can you ever hope to convince people that results from a synthetic benchmark are as valid as those from a "real" retail games title? The stock quote the keeps appearing is that "people play games, not benchmarks". Tero: While it is true that people play games and not benchmarks, it really does not mean that only games can be used as benchmarks! Both games and synthetic applications can be designed well or poorly to serve as a benchmark. You really have to determine these case by case.

nVidia´s TWIMTBP Program: An Interview

Published by [NT] 1

3DCenter: The "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" logo can be found on many a game box. From time to time, voices are raised claiming the sticker is nothing but paid advertising space. Does nVidia really have to pay for placing the logo, quite apart from developers support?

Darryl Still: Let me be very clear. This could not be further from the truth, and you only have to see whose voices it is being raised to see how very transparent those claims are. Not one dollar will change hands between either side in an agreement on a title for that title to be included in the "The Way Its Meant To Be Played" program.

Published by Newsfactory 0

The FiringSquad have thrown up their interview with the peeps behind the StarForce Copy Protection System!

Over the past few months there has been increasing debate and even furor over copy protection that is becoming increasingly invasive. It checks for CloneCD, Alcohol 120% and other utilities, and won't permit you to use them one way or another. One of the most notorious names is "StarForce" - supposedly difficult to crack, tough to remove, and all sorts of compatibility allegations fly around. So is it the "Great Satan", or simply another case of internet paranoia?
