Intel to Launch Northwood P4 Processors with 1MB of Cache?

Published by Newsfactory 2

Xbitlabs reports that there are unofficial claims that Intel will add Pentium 4 processors with 1MB of cache into its product lineup later this year. Because of dramatic problems with 90nm Strained Silicon technology we reported about on Friday, the company presumably plans to strengthen its product lineup with Pentium 4 processors running at 2.80, 3.00 and 3.20GHz core-speeds with 1MB of cache to support sales this year amid Athlon 64 ramp.

Nvidia NV38 vs. ATI 9800XT Part 2

Published by Newsfactory 7

The guy's over at AnandTech have thrown up their Fall 2003 Video Card Roundup Part 2 - ATI's Radeon 9800 XT article! which includes benchmarks for Nvidia's NV38 (Drivers used 52.14) against ATI's 9800XT (Catalyst 3.7 ) and were run on a AMD Athlon64 FX51 CPU! Here's a rip.

Some of the motivation behind Part 1 was to give everyone an idea how these two cards perform vs. mid/high end cards that are already out. We wanted to give a basis for comparison so that numbers between 9800XT and NV38 had some way to relate back to what we already know. So now we can get on with trying to push these to their limits and beyond. The only other card we will be testing in Part 2 is the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra with both 52.14 and publicly available 45.23 WHQL drivers. We will also be doing a separate article on ATI's Catalyst 3.8 drivers when they are released.

AMD Duron Applebred vs. Athlon XP Thoroughbred

Published by Newsfactory 0

Recently AMD introduced its new Durons. We test the 1.6 ghz version. The most interesting part of this cpu is its core voltage, only 1.5 V. It is begging to be compared with an Athlon XP TbredB, dlt3c (known for reaching speeds up to 2700Mhz!). Is the new Duron an equally good overclocker ? Maybe even better ? Find out in this review at Madshrimps!

Cooligy unveils Active Micro-Channel Cooling technology

Published by Newsfactory 0

The next generation of microprocessors, the semiconductor ?brains? of computers, not only produce higher overall temperatures but also create one or more concentrated hot spots of particularly high heat on the chip. These hot spots, typically found above areas where the most amount of work is performed on the chip, must be kept to within a specified temperature to ensure high-performance and reliability. Traditional means of cooling these chips, such as heat sinks, fan sinks and heat pipes, require a large mass of metal to passively absorb and spread the heat to aircooled fins. These passive technologies cannot effectively cool the hot spots produced in next generation microprocessors..

ATI Radeon 9100 IGP Preview

Published by Newsfactory 0

Just got word that Beyond3D have thrown up their ATI Radeon 9100 ICG Reference motherboard preview.

The Radeon 9100 IGP is more or less targeted as a Springdale type platform, with good all round performance, a Dual DDR400 memory bus and, after further behind the scenes dealings and IP trading with Intel, an 800MHz Frontside bus. So, in terms of system performance it should be up there with Intel?s latest entry offerings. However, as our introduction to Radeon 9100 IGP indicates, the key to RS300 is all about addressing the forgotten area of gaming.

Nothing earth-shattering or anything, but I asked my friend there about if their new cards were only going to do 2xAA as earlier reported and he wrote me back not only telling me that they're going to be doing 4xAA FSAA but he also sent me a chart detailing some more of their specs. :)

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 Technical Specifications Uncovered?

Published by Newsfactory 0

Xbitlabs reports that specifications of some actual graphics cards based on NVIDIA?s upcoming NV36 graphics processor for performance-mainstream market transpired in the web this week. The solutions based on the GeForce FX 5700 will feature a little-bit reworked GeForce FX 5600 GPU running at higher speed and DDR-II memory with 128-bit bus. NVIDIA decided not to cope with 256-bit design this year for mainstream solutions probably because it is more efficient from economic point of view to use newer and faster memory on conventional 128-bit channels.

ASUS RADEON 9800 XT Sneak Peek

Published by Newsfactory 0

The Firing Squad have posted their sneak peek at Asus's Radeon 9800 XT graphics card! Here's a snip.

As you can see, ASUS has come up with its own unique cooling solution for its RADEON 9800 XT card, which features dual fans and a copper heatsink, this is similar to the cooling setup ASUS implemented on its GeForce FX 5900 Ultra-based V9950 Ultra. We haven?t spent enough time with our card to come to any definite conclusions on its performance, but we can report that noise levels aren?t extraordinary.

Nvidia NV38 vs. ATI 9800XT

Published by Newsfactory 1

The guy's over at AnandTech have thrown up their Fall 2003 Video Card Roundup Part I - ATI's Radeon 9800 XT article! which includes benchmarks for Nvidia's NV38 (Drivers used 52.14) against ATI's 9800XT (Catalyst 3.7 ) and were run on a Intel Prescott 2.8GHz CPU! Here's a rip.

The XT line of Radeon 9x00 cards is specifically targeted at the very high end of the gaming market. With AMD and their Athlon 64 FX, Intel and the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition, it?s not too surprising to see even more companies going this direction. With an ultra-premium part like the Radeon 9800 XT the profit margins are high and more importantly, the PR opportunities are huge ? claiming the title of world?s fastest desktop GPU never hurts.
