Earlier today, Apple launched updated MacBook Pro models, moving its 15" and 17" models to Intel Core i5 and i7 processors utilizing integrated Intel graphics paired with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M discrete graphics cards. The new 13" MacBook Pro, however, continues to utilize Intel Core 2 Duo processors with a custom NVIDIA GeForce 320 integrated graphics solution. Some observers have questioned why Apple did not make a more substantial upgrade to the processors used in the 13" models.

Apple halts retail orders for MacBook Pros ahead of new models

Apple last week instated a stay on new retail orders for MacBook Pros as it prepares to introduce the first significant updates to the professional notebook line in over a year. Meanwhile, AppleInsider has learned of the Mac maker's plans to adopt Intel's lower-spec'd Core i3 series of processors in some of its future offerings.

Steve Jobs Confirms Lack of Future Support for Original iPhone

Just in case there was any doubt regarding Apple's plans to not support the original iPhone with iPhone OS 4, Apple CEO Steve Jobs has now weighed in on the matter with one of his typically terse emails. MacStories reports that a Twitter user sent an email to Jobs asking about future support for the original iPhone, to which Jobs responded "Sorry, no."

iPhone OS 3.2 Reveals References to New iPhone, iPod, and iPad Models

Boy Genius Report noted over the weekend that Apple's new iPhone OS 3.2 released with the iPad contains references to four new iPhone OS devices. While the new listings, which appear to correspond to two new iPhones, an iPod touch, and an iPad, are not terribly surprising given Apple's product development timelines, they still provide reassurance of the company's future plans.

Apple raised eyebrows during the original iPad unveiling when it casually noted that the new device would be using a new, Apple-designed System on a Chip named the A4. The company's future custom silicon plans are likely to expand even faster following its acquisition of Intrinsity, a privately owned ARM design firm.
