On 14 January 2005, we reported about a new firmware that was in development for the Philips DVDRW855K/00. With this new firmware, users would be able to upgrade that drive into a true DVD±RW/+R9 DL drive. Today, we are happy to be the exclusive source of this important upgrade for our Philips community members! It's available right now and can be downloaded here.

Plextor PX-716 DVD-R dual layer Beta Firmware

This firmware allows users to burn DVD-R dual layer discs at 2 speed. Plextor Japan warns that this is a beta firmware and therefor doesn't guarantee that one will be able to actually burn DVD-R dual layer discs. The firmware also disables SecuRec, GigaRec and VariRec.

Liggy over at the cdfreaks forum has released Beta4 of his firmware speed hack for the NEC 3500, this firmware will allow faster writing to most DVDR media.

I'm currently using this firmware myself and its very good, I can write RitekG04 4x at 8x and Datawrite FUJIFILM03 8x at 12x !!
