C]Net reports that IBM has quietly issued a patch to fix a problem with Hitachi hard disks on some of its ThinkPad models.
The problem affects ThinkPad models R50, R50p, T41, T41p that have the Hitachi 60GB 7200 rpm hard disk drive, model HTS726060M9AT00 with ASM part number 92P6550 and FRU part number 92P6551.
This firmware update is for customers using Mac OS X version 10.2 or later with an Apple Cinema HD Display and a Power Mac G4 with one of the following NVIDIA graphics cards:
CDFreaks report that Plextor Japan had pulled firmware 1.05 for the Plextor PX-708A/UF drive from their website due to some problems with DVD-R/RW media. We also reported that according to Plextor Japan a new firmware would be released soon and today version 1.06 has been released that fixes the problems.
Techseekers reports that RPC1.org has done it again, now with the latest 1.10 firmware. You can now rip at 12xDVD and have RPC1 and selectable 8x DVD-R for suitable media.
Pioneer Corporation released a quieting utility for the DVD+_R 8x internal DVD burner, the "DVR-A07-J" on the 20th. The program size is 250KB.
The "Advance Quiet Utility" released provides three operational modes for users of the DVR-A07-J, which can be manually set through the tool: Quiet Mode, Performance Mode, and Standard Mode. This tool is compatible with only the DVR-A07-J.

All users of the GBA Movie Player can now update their firmware for free. The upgrade doesn't hurt and takes only about 1 second. Once installed, the GBA Movie Player now shows some new icons on the screen when playing movies and some smaller audio sync and other problems are fixed (not that we would have noticed them anyway).
