:D I DID IT!!! I DID IT!!!
I got XP Pro onto my system!!!
This may seem like a weak claim to fame but XP just will not go onto unsupported hardware and Compaq told me that my hardware is just this - unsupported. They don't recognise XP as a server operating system ( therefore it's not worthy of their hardware?? )
My problem was my RAID Controller card - in this case the Compaq Smart Array 431.
I couldn't XP Pro it to load conventionally but I found a driver on Compaq's extremely easy to navigate site which would allow an installation of XP Pro to see my Smart Array 431. I then had a plan. It seemed logical to me, but I still put my chances of succes at less than very little.
Here's what I did: (just in case anyone's interested or in the same position i was in - I'm sure my foolproof  plan  has the potential to work with similar problems on different hardware)
Installed XP Pro on a single SCSI drive using onboard SCSI
Introduced it to the Array by installing the driver from Compaq
This meant I had an installation of XP with a driver for my card installed
Rebooted with Win98 startup disk
Ran Ghost 2003
Ghosted from single SCSI drive to the Array
Switched off and disconnected the single SCSI drive (VERY IMPORTANT!!)
Switched on and prayed.
IT WORKED!! IT WORKED!!

Yes. You should buy from a company that has support that doesn't require you to pray or kick your pc or even....totally destroy it in sheer disbelief...
Heh, Ive put XP Pro on a Pentium 200 MX with 32 megs of ram. Mind you it was used as a thin client only connecting to a citrix metaframe server but it actually ran just as quick as windows 98 or Me did on the system!
As much as I hate the look and feel of XP (i run win2k) it is a really great corporate solution, and if you want to clean it up and customize it im sure its a great home solution as well!

Um, couldn't you have just added the RAID array as a "3rd party storage controller" during Windows XP's setup? You press F3 or F2 or something like that, then it brings up a list of stuff, then you hit Have Disk and it adds the driver just as if you were in Windows.
I hope you've already tried that, otherwise you might have gone through a little extra trouble
And Mclenny... it's really easy to switch off Windows XP's extra visual stuff and basically turn it back into a newer version of Windows 2000. (but I'm guessing you already know this)

Hey I saw that you have a Gigabyte Dual BIOS motherboard. I have a Gigabyte Dual BIOS motherboard also but its a different model. I dont know if the BIOS is the same in the two motherbords but in yours do you know how to change the FSB.
