basically winRAR is better bit it always depend on the content ...

if you want something zipped down to the very max go for 7zip ... but the tool is ugly and its not compatible to other apps ...

for general use ... go for WinACE or WinRAR they both are pretty much the same and support nearly any format

since there is WinRAR and WinACE WinZip become forgotten since those 2 have much better compressionratio and give full Zip support ...
I personally prefer WinACE ... its more "clear" and more "beautiful" but if there wouldn't be any WinACE WinRAR would do the job the same way

I don't really like WinACE too much. On my computer if I open a zip archive from a website it sometimes opens it and then just leaves it for no reason. Grr.

try using the latest 2.5.0.9 version its quite well know that WinACE had some trouble with registration ... even if you were registered (legally) user it unregistered you from time to time

since x.9 it just works flawlessly

I use WinRAR for many years now..

it supports pretty much all the types and the compression ratio is pretty good...

I'm used to it and I won't change it easily

I recently discovered http://www.tugzip.com/news.html

which is a very good program ...
supports nearly every format
including .bin and stuff
but most important it contains a WinRAR / winace like GUI with the support of 7Zip which is by far the best compression methode...

but most important ... ITS FREE !!

:D its not 100% stable there are crashes from in special situation but up to now I was able to extract any archiv with this tool
the only thing I experienced in some rare cases is that the context menu extraction does not work but switching to the GUI extraction fixes this

yes devs are quite active in support forums and 3.3 is on the way

you can also add full ACE and .rar support by copying the freeware cmd .exe into tugzip dir and activate em by the plugin options
