Well I've installed and have been running and have recieved one Blue Screen of Death within about 5 minutes of running.
Also for those that use Windows Messenger Microsoft is locking down EVERYTHING...
I had to open up (UpNp)TCP and (UpNp)UDP under network card settings to allow my connection to be able to use the conversation piece of Windows Messenger... (There is a new Settings button added under your network card settings)
Finally a POP UP STOPPER for IE - Took long enough... Have been using Google Toolbar forever anyway...
I'll say one thing talk about putting a spin on all those MCSE's out there with this service pack - So many new items and settings hidden in so many places...
Don't forget - Messenger is disable (which is a good thing and I mean the Service not Windows Messenger) this is what allows those stupid Pop Ups that most think are browser pop ups but in gray boxes... This is really used for administrators and server messages and the like...
Anyone else been running this??? It's been running perfectly fine though after that first initial MINI DUMP - A name for a blue screen you normally won't see and creates and instant reboot for those that don't know...
I have to say it's a big improvement... One other problem I do have is that I can not use Windows Update it reports an error that of course isn't listed in their troubleshooter on that page...
It has an Express and Custom to choose from on the V5 of Windows Update now...
Well so far guys look forward to it - it will be well worth it... I'll report other findings if I come across any - Feel free to post any other findings or cures for those using it...

Feel Free to install... I think it is much faster and it has many things of interest...
You can download the express setup from... www.geeknewz.com
which is about 3 mb in size and once you run update.exe it downloads everything and balloons to about 500 mb...
I purposely extracted the 3 mb file which then becomes about 17mb or so into a folder then ran and it installed but I did this so that all the files it downloads will remain in this single folder you create and as I said it is about 499 mb and 503 mb on disk...
I then burned this to disk and with this can probably be merged with Windows XP for a straight and simple installation of XP...
Supposedly SP2 includes all the goodies from SP1 so for those that don't even have that could install SP2 and be up to beta 1 build v2055...
Remember it is beta...
I just wanted to mention here for those that use a lot of things especially with networking etc. are going to find it different and a lot of things will not work unless you dig deep to find out why...
I luckily stumbled over those settings I mentioned in my first post just to get Windows Messenger back to it's normal form where you can click on someone in your contact list and have a conversation with them etc.
I can also say that when this gets released so many are going to freak because things aren't working or are different and of course this is all by design - As I said also they have locked down everything!!!
Trying to fill all those known holes you know may kill other things people are used to...

Some of this may be in the document Microsoft has for SP2 - But I haven't looked at it but I found a few more things out today or just now on my own...
IF anything doesn't work check your Event Viewer for a possible solution - I think I mentioned in my first post that Windows Update v5 wasn't working and I was receiving an error like x08xxxx70422, I think that was number on the end. Of course on this site their troubleshooter tells you nothing of this error...
So if you want a fix I dug up what it is - as they lock down everything there is a DCOM that is changed after install obviously this showed several red flags in my even viewer and it all coinsided with everytime I tried running an update express or custom on this page...
So I went into Control Panel and checked under Administration Tools then Component Services and there is a DCOM Config under here I ran this and found the Windows Update DCOM and changed all the settings under here by Right Clicking on it and going to Properties and set all to DEFAULT then went back to Windows Update and all is working fine now...
What you can find when you dig a little... Thank god I do computers and IT for a living - Feel sorry for the layman or those that don't know computers...

lol even the default XP sreensaver got updated ... but much more interesting .... mediaplayer 9.0.3086 is integrated ... and the new XP firewall seems to be really good .... I have tried a lot of firewalls last days and I was only disappointed ... especially from ZoneAlarm which is a realy piece of shit .... the only thing promising was sygate firewall but this one dropped traffic which it should not ... even if you set an adv. rule to allow any possible trffic it still blocked some ....
SP2 .... really good job MS !
yet http://scan.sygate.com totally fails and looking at the firewall log shows all those connections from this scanner ... really nice since only sygate firewall did that

I've also been having quite a bit of problems with this...
I had it working and did a re-install of SP2 but now it isn't working again...
I went back through same steps I did before but this time it will not let it work...
I'm unable to send files or do conversations with others... It just sits there until it finally errors out...
Windows Update has been working fine after digging up that tidbit I mentioned earlier...
The weirdest thing about SP2 is I've done an un-install of Windows Messenger a re-install and no matter what, SP2 does NOT install the version it has included with it...
I'm currently running 5.0.00468 and it acts completely horrible with SP2 installed when I type chat it will not let me see what I'm typing at times and seems to lock up at times and after send takes a while to display in upper window... Anyone else having these troubles???
I've even gone back to the default version of 4.7.02009 and tried a re-install of SP2 and neither will allow the version that is with SP2 to install???
The version on SP2 is 5.1 (4.7.03000) so what is funny is it's really 4.7 version but listed as 5.1 - weird to say the least...
If you do an Un-install of SP2 you will end up with the 4.7.02009 left on PC even if you had the 5.0.00468 version installed.
I've even gone as far as doing a compare with the extracted SP2 and moved all proper files over and over wrote the Messenger files and the program works this way and gives you the proper version of 5.1 (4.7.003000) but I still could not get the file transfer to work or conversation to work with friends or contacts...
Don't get me wrong I'm no expert and don't know what other files are needed in the SYSTEM folder if any the only files I've changed were in the Messenger folder...
There is a line you can type at run that removes Windows Messenger all together from your PC (RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%infmsmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove) without the parenthesis and I've done this even but maybe the registry is still holding something that is not allowing it to install from the SP2?
Well other than all this going on I've had no other problems (YET)...

I don't use any of those items anyway...
I've never used a firewall or a virus scan and have never had anything what so ever and I've been using computers for over 10+ years now...
Personally I don't believe in any of these items and I don't really care if someone wants to try to do something to my computer - I'll simply re-image it and move on...
So my computer doesn't have anything enabled... I do have Norton System Works and run it once every few months just for clean up and to check occassionally to see if anything has infected my PC but I don't use the real time garbage all that is, is a resource hog... And even doing this I still have not had a single infection in 10+ years.
Let me add that I download more in a day every day than most do in 5 years probably - Newgroups are the ticket - I've used some things as Bearshare and Overnet but always will scan each individual file from those places... Most Newsgroups have already scanned and rescanned anything coming and going no their sites - It's much safer and much more items to find there (FREE)...
People themselves are the reason that they get infected - All of my email is sent straight to deleted items and then I add back only those I know to my contacts list - everything else is emptied right after closing out of Outlook...
My computer is still locked down tight regardless of not using anything for protection... But why I can't get those items to work properly is becuase something Microsoft has shut down or closed off - I just haven't found it yet.
I've been in many of arguments over my feelings on this and I agree all this stuff is great for corporations and those that just don't know how to re-image or aren't in the IT field - all of these are wonderful but they keep me out of a job... LOL.
What's funny is that Windows XP SP2 is locked down more than Windows 2003 Server Enterprise is - I know I have a server with it, it is running my joke of a web-site for me and my buddies - www.cellar-dweller.com
And it so funny to see how many people try installing and running scripts on this thing by reading the log files... By the way I don't run anything on it either - firewall and the such...
Well if anyone comes up with anything on easy fixes for problems or has other problems with this lets just keep posting here and maybe we can help each other fix any issues until it really gets released...
I beta test for them all the time and was really ticked they didn't choose me as one for the SP2 or even the SP1 for 2003 - Thanks for the radio for doing Office 2003 though... LOL. - Stinks not being able to access the newsgroup for this beta... We'd be able to see all the issues etc. - Downfall of not being chosen...

I did not care about firewall and all thus stuff .... I do not have any critical data on my HDD that equal to me ... but if there is a way to protec me a bit more without loosing anything else then 0,1% cpu power its a fairt deal .... but now I am ruuning agin without any firewall since all those protectors suck ... they block traffic they should not or don't block anything or............ so the threat is over ... firewalls lick my ass .... but just wanted to remark that the integrated solution seem to become quite good and if I just have to press ON nothing more its OK ...
Looks Like Geeknewz is not up now...anywhere else I can get this...could you e-mail me the express installer? I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Thanks so much for that query Mertsch! I always go to Google first, and I tried everything I could think of to no avail but that one Nailed it!
Again Thanks

The reason Windows Update reports errors is because once you install SP2 and upon first boot up you are presented with a question about keeping your PC up to date - Otherwise Automatic Updates is then activated.
If you select NO then this Service is Disabled and when going to the Windows Update site it will report an error 0xx8xxxx something.
If you select YES then of course it goes out and downloads and sits in your system tray for your response.
If you still don't want this feature which I DON'T you can say YES during the boot and then go to My Computer - Automatic Updates Tab and then set it to not download or install - at least this way the service is started and will be set to Manual - Or say NO and just go in to Services and set this to Manual - so that when you go to the Windows Update site it will function properly...
I still have not been able to configure my PC to allow File Transfers with Windows Messenger - I can RECEIVE but can NOT Send - I did get the Video and Voice functions to work - This was a royal pain because once you mess with any setting in your Network settings or with Component Services the computer needs to be rebooted to see if any changes worked - I know I've restarted my PC 1000 times in the last two days trying to find a setting that would work.
I've enabled TCP/IP Filtering and allowed all IP's all other default settings enabled all IP's for these as well and turned off the Firewall for all adapters but yet it still reports errors about Firewall when trying to send files???
