Mobo i'm looking for, it's for performance, But To mention this, I'm Not Planning on to overclock anything.
I want good onboard sound, so that i don't have to buy another sound card.
I don't need RAID, or any of those nice feats.

By the way, i'm planning on to buy the 2500 Athlon, Barton.

I use epox ,I think kt600 is better then nforce2, nforce2 have many bugs when you use ,and the driver is not update quickly,I will get a kt880.

I dunno what bugs ya mean ... I dunno whats the problem with drivers ??
whats the use of regular updates when there is nothing to update ...
and come on the VIA driver suck as least as much as nForce drivers ... even more ... on the VIA boards I had it ALWAYS ran faster without VIA driver then with ...

and if you point at KT880
look at the difference of time it took to beat nForce2 chipset ...
nForce 2 was the first REAL chipset since KT133A
KT266/300/400 were simply crap and totally disapointing to me ... I owned 3 boards with those chipset ...
and I thank my friend very much who pointed me on NF7 past days ...

I agree with Mertsch nForce all the way.......I only wish I could have found a nForce2 mobo with dual IDE raid when I was looking around to buying my Epox 8K9A3+.

Never mind I'll just have to go nforce 3 at my next upgrade and get a nice rocketraid PCI card........or who knows by then it might be PCI-Express

I have an ABit AN7 and find its a top class motherboard.
The one I replaced was an Asus A7N8X-X. While very basic, its also very cheap and ran my CPU 100MHz higher than the AN7 would, all BIOS features accounted for.
I've also had an ABitNF7 V2.0, it clocked the CPU about the same as the AN7, not as fast as the A7N8X-X.

The A7N8X-X doesnt have Soundstorm or Uguru which is a real help when overclocking too much as you dont need to reset your CMOS if you go over the top! (It boots in a safe mode and allows you to change your settings and try, try again )

For these reasons, I recommend the A7N8X-X if you dont care about the sound chip and want the dogs nads from your CPU. If you want Soundstorm and would like an easier clocking life (maybe a bit slower tho), the Abit AN7 is excellent.

I've been wondering for a while if my current watercooled setup would go even more with the old A7N8X-X. Damn shame I sold it.

A little performance note
Some boards are Dual Channel DDR, some are not. I have found it makes so little difference to performance its not worth considering. Especially when running in Single Channel Mode, you can clock your Ram higher.
My system is running Single Channel with higher clock

The CPU has only the bandwidth of a single DDR channel, the Dual Mode was designed for those motherboards with onboard graphics, so the system wasnt brought to its knees when using graphics intensive programs. Dual Mode has a small benefit for everyday use, but it is small.

yes the AN7 is awesome ...
just like NF7(xxxxx) v2.0

the only real problem about that board is its unstable CPU voltage ... and here lies your problem with overclocking ... if you take a tool like MBM 5
set the refresh rate to 1 sec and measure for about 2 days
with hundred of thousands results

you will notice quite much of a difference between high and low ... most problem the lows for sure ... they can drop quite much lower then you have set ...

e.g.
when I do set my voltage to 1.78 in BIOS its basically more then enough for the CPU but since the board .... from time to time has a low
I have to see that the min voltage is 1.73V ... thats the problem here ... it can work for days ... but there is 1 time when there is a low and the CPU is heavyly used and POOOOF it goes away ...
even more ... when I do set my voltage to 1.81V the lowest point is only 0.01 higher ... 1.74V

thats very much wast of power and CPU life ... but OK ... I can life with that ... since the board got so very much extreme settings its a point to ignore ...

also I do not like the ASUS board ... a friend of mine got it here due some problems and ... for an overclcker it really does no good ...

since the AN7 is kinda cheap in price I would recommend the AN7 to anybody

greets
