When is a Barton not a Barton?
When is a Barton not a Barton? I have just bought an XP2800+ CPU and after having benchmarked my system for the last few days trying several different fsb settings, i was wondering why there was little or no improvement in my scores etc over my last Thoroughbred B 2100+ clocked at 200x11.

I didn't even know AMD made 2800+ B's?
Has anyone else been conned into buying one of these?
I'll refrain from slagging off the supplier at the present time, i'll wait n see if they exchange it first.........

Check out this link, shows that the 2800+ did come out with 256K cache.

Doh silly me!
here's the steppings on it....

It's the "3" after the "KV" that says it has 256kb L2 Cache and not 512kb that a Barton has.
Oh well, it's back to the shop with this then as it ain't worth keeping over my previous T/bred B, guess the minimul speed increase don't justify the cost
Think i'll wait for the FX's to drop in price a bit before the next cpu upgrade  just tryin to squeeze even more juice out of my nice new 9800Pro AIW.......

Hmmm :hmm:
It's a company in Manchester, U.K. that's all i'm saying till i see if they refund me, if not then i'll be back to "spill the beans" on who they are and forewarn anyone else from buying a "fake" Barton...
I'll stick with my T/bred B she runs sweet 24/7 200x11 (2105) 1.7V, 40-45C stable..... may try upping the multi to see if i can get any more juice out of this puppy?
Funny thing is, i checked the link above for Toms Hardware guide and sure enough there is a T/bred B 2800+, but the pic shows a brown cpu, whereas mine is green! wt#? how many different 2800+ did AMD make? :hmm:

That's my existing T/Bred B, xp2100+ @200x11. she does run sweet at 2105mhz 1.65v. 24/7
Taking this fake Barton back tomorrow and going for a 2500+ one instead, i've read great things about them cpu's.... Just hope i get a real one! :P
It's a Thorton. Exactly what you described (half the L2 cache with the same speeds as a Barton).
Side note: A 2800+ would not perform that much better (if at all) than an OCed CPU at 2.2GHz (effectively a 3200+). If you were expecting massive gains because of the Barton's extra cache, you waisted your money, I'm afraid.

Problem solved.........
i took it back to the shop and exchanged it for a Retail 2500+ Barton, and YES it is a Barton, i checked the steppings!
I read good reports about these chips so hopefully she'll " do the trick"?
