Yes, actually it is not me having the problem. It's my friend. After he connec the usb device to the usb device it is not found, but after restard the device is detected. He has update usb patches from microsoft update page and have sp1 installed. Simple device like keyboaed ,mouse and thumb drive require restard also.
thanks in advance.
thanks in advance.
hmmm ask him to reset his BIOS and do not tweak anything then try again ... if this does not work he can set anything as he want ... if it does work he should look which option he change false .... maybe a BIOS update also helps ?
or did he tweak his windows ? maybe plug and play detection is off ? what happens if he connects a printer ... does this require a restart, too or is the printer found just on connect

Setting the bios to default has already been made, it is no good. I have check the bios update but it doesn't mention any fix on that. Another mysterious problem is that the computer can't even run a bootable win xp disc. After informing to press any key(boot) and the message inpecting hardware configuration, the computer seem like stop reading the disc and pause on the blank(black) screen. The Cd-drive is ok and can be used in windows as normally other people would.

narf .... is VIRUS check enabled by default ??? this prevents OS install since it classifies it as virus and stops operation ... if you can then install XP .... it may be just a driver bug in windows since it basically works ... and I would try a BIOS update, too even if there is nothing mentioned ... ppl. aren't perfect maybe somebody forgot something .... and since BIOS Update is as easy as driver update and the only problem that can occure is a loss of power .... just update ...
i got the same problem tonight
but my mouse was unplugged....
:knife: throwed too much with it....2x windows reinstall :knife:
when BIOS update wont work, maybe u try to get newer intel inf driver but check first if the chipset is supported.

The latest INF has been install but no luck. I would flash the mobo bios if the machine is mine, cuz i like to keep thing up 2 date. But i just can't do it on other people machine. I don't think (may be) it is the bios problem. If it is, how the can the machine accept the installation of win xp in the first place.
This might be a clue, after a few day my friend has perchase the machine, he has already discover his USB ports not functionning without restart, but the xp installation problem has not been discover. We then take the hard disk from his old PC (40GB primary slave) and a DVD-Rom(16x sec master) and put it on the new machine. Before puting in the old HDD and DVD-ROM, the machine has already been setup with win xp pro.
After a few day may friend phone the vendor, informing that his USB problem. The Vendor tell him to do a fresh install of XP, and he call me to do the job together and then we discover the xp installation problem. I have try the tradisional way by using the Xp and 98se boot disk (floopy). After it boot, i try to mount on the Cd drive and found it is not detacted and then i try to mount on the HDD but it also not detacted (i think this is not the big deal cuz it is NTFS). This make me believe that the machine can't detact the cd or DVD-rom and cause this problem.
Any idea?

Thanks everyone, i got the problem solve already. I try to merge the partition of the hard disk using fdisk (to kill any data). After that the windows xp cd has no problem to boot and i use the cd to format the drive which i can't do using the 98 boot disk cause it is NTFS. After formating and reinstalling the USB ports work without restarting the machine.
Thanks again(everyone) for your participation and concerning about the problem.
Just can't stop saying thanks again.
