Updating a Santa Cruz to an Audigy 2?
This is a discussion about Updating a Santa Cruz to an Audigy 2? in the General Hardware category; I currently have a TB Santa Cruz, which is working just fine and have no trouble with it. But I wasw considering upgrading to an Audigy or Audigy 2, but was curious as to opinions on if it is worth it or not.

The only thing that bugs me about the Santa Cruz is that the drivers aren't updated very often. Also I noticed that in games and in Winamp, the 5.1 works just fine, but when using sound in just windows and startup and shutdown sounds, it only works for the front 2 speakers. I don't know if it is designed that way or something is wrong.
But being a big game player, I was curious as to if upgrading to an Audigy if it would be worth it or just a waste of money.
Is it really any better than the Santa Cruz?
Thanks.

Maybe an Audigy 2 if you have the money to spare and having windows sound in 2 channels is really important to you, but definately not an Audigy 1, they are worse than your current card, and their drivers are updated even less.
this 2channel sound is a driver problem .... normally an yudigy gives you 2 channel for any windows/winamp stereo sound ... but there is the option CMSS which upmixes 2 to 5 6 or 8 channels .... and if you choose CMSS2/3D some extra effect which I don't like ....
I dunno how the santa performs .... but I really like my A2

OP
Well atleast I know the card isn't having problems.
The thing about windows itself only using 2 channels for the beeps and startup/shutdown sounds isn't a big deal, I just thought there was a possible problem with the card.
But it's nice to know that the Santa Cruz, even though it is an older card, still can hold it's own with the latest stuff. :)

Since it works fine for you why upgrade? You will not hear any big differences by upgrading to audigy 2.
Audigy2Zs is a amazing sound card , but only in games with high tec you can extract the full power with the features , if it woks fine leave it with update drivers at that's enough
