Has anybody here played Return to Castle Wolfenstien?

I think its gotta be one of the best first person shooters ever.

Besides

Max Payne

Does anybody else agree with me?

Half Life hands down
but max payne is a awesome game regardless
RTCW2 wasnt that good of a game,
BF1942 is a sweet game,

James Bond Goldeneye 007 on n64 is the best game of all time for 1st persons! (console based)

But all time best definatly Half Life, because of how large of a range of a game it was and all the things you could do, as opposed to all the other engines and mod's made from and for it

I agree, Goldeneye is sitll one of my favorite games of all time...the weapons, the music, the characters...priceless.

SOF2 multiplayer is also incredible, I love it.
Perfect Dark is also good, as is UT (the original)

There's nothing wrong with the game in it's current form as long as it's updated with the current patch. There are no "bugs" in the game. The bugs are (or were) in the video drivers. By the way, there is a little "mod" out there that allows you to play ALL levels whenever you want and in whatever order you want. There are no cheats though so if you can only play games with "cheats enabled", this game is probably not for you.

While I played it, it was still 1.0. And the thing that happened was a script bug that made a certain building indestructable. Some kind of event was supposed to happen prior to being able to destroy the building, and that event was never played.
The only building left of a base I was supposed to destroy.

Understood. I don't recall any script bugs in the early days of that game ... although I remember other "features" that weren't quite up to snuff. At any rate, if you still have it (the game CDs), try and download the latest patch for it (I.4 I think) and give it another try. I've played it from start to finish (no cheats) probably 10 times over the past few years and for me it's one of the best games I've ever played (if not THE best). Also, there are some pretty good walk-throughs available that might help if you get stuck.

Later.

SOF1 came during a period of many other games, so it was kinda 'forgotten' at my place. Slthough I did go through the sequel.
Raven Soft always make good games.

I quite liked Red Faction (for the single player game) pity I found Red Faction 2 a big let down in both tech and story. (respawning enemies, and a less realistic destructible environment than the 1st, along with no real improvement in graphics)

I have to agree with those who dislike Unreal 2, after the sheer coolness of Unreal's environments and mapping U2 was a worse game in pretty much all respects.

OK lets take REAL FPS in single player ... which I like more ... MP is nice but I don't play too often

0. Half-Life (I think I don't need to say more - combined with opposing force and blueshift the true winner)
1. SOF 1 (fast bloody ... simply fun)
2. Red Faction (fast, mixed content not onyl FPS)
3. Serious Sam 1 (awesome mass destruction game without any reality elements ... simply great - the one scene ... more then 1000 enemies running at you - at that level you gained as much score as all levels before)
4. AvP (alien - OK, Pred. - getting warm, Marine - absolut shocking, dark GREAT)
5. AvP 2 (awesome combination of 3 different mission to one paralell action - but too easy and lost a bit the SUPRISING effekt)
6. SoF 2 (bloody, but a bit too realistic)
7. Chaser (the game itself it not that good but not bad - BUT its awesome lenght which make you feel it never ends makes the game really good)
8. Elite Force II (I am no star trek fan but this combination of FPS and story rocks)
9. Red Faction 2 (fast, and pure action not a simple stop its just rolling action no room for pause - BUT very bad console port )
10. RTCW (yeah it was strange but it made fun anyway)
11. ......... i got to stop ....

very hard to make a ranking ..... if I have to recreate this it wouldn't be the same list

CU

1. Half life - Ground breaking at its time and ran like a champ. Had a great community that supported it and still does with many mods like Counter Strike, Day of Fefeat, and firearms.

2. Soldier of fortune 2 - I was an addic with this game. I think at one point and time I was 8th in the world. Great gore and story to go along with single player multiplayer game play was a blast.

3. Dues Ex - Wow what a great first person shooter role playing game. The story line was like a novel. A classic all around great game.

4.Quake 3 and Q3 Arena - Great online fraging spree's. At its time these were some sweet graphics.

5. Far Cry - I just finished this one, and WOW. This game rocks on so many different levels. Due to its high demand on PC "power" I feel the multiplayer will not evolve into anything spetacular. Multiplayer reminds me of team fortress but with better graphics.

6. King Pin ( Going way back) - This brutal fps game was sooo fun. Built on the quake 2 engine. You can blow off limbs and talk trash to the bad guys. A Classic!

7. Shogo mobil Armor Devision - Another oldie. This game had flawless multiplayer gameplay. Built on the Monolith engine this game could be played for hours and hours.

8. Call Of Duty - This game was busy. Iv never felt like I was in a war untill playing this game. The sounds and graphics pull you in. Solid gameplay.

9. Halo - I never really got crazy about this game, but it was a good one.

10. Medal of Honor - A very cool WW2 game for its time.

11. XIII - A comic book fps. A new wave of FP shooter games. Well worth the mention.
