SB Live 5.1, which drivers to pick?

Hello, can anybody tell me, which driver version of the creative drivers is recommendable for the sblive 51? I tried some different ones, including the latest official 07/17/02 release, which have been crap.

Hello, can anybody tell me, which driver version of the creative drivers is recommendable for the sblive 51? I tried some different ones, including the latest official 07/17/02 release, which have been crap. It appears that creative cancelled all support for any other card than Audigy2, so are there any good Audigy2 drivers, I can use for my card? I installed those with the version 03.23 from Station drivers but dxdiag told me that hardware sound buffers were unsupported with these, and playback works only via software buffer. Anybody?

Go here:
http://fernando.darocha.free.fr/page/sblive-audigy.htm

Download the 5.12.1.252 drivers from compaq (171MB) then extract the files into a folder and delete the ctoem.cfg file in compaqSP22563audiosetup
Then install by running the setup file

After rebooting, then upgrade the drivers ONLY to version 5.12.1.253 which you can also download on this page:
http://fernando.darocha.free.fr/page/sblive-audigy.htm

Works AMAZINGLY well on XP Pro SP1 for me.
By far the best drivers I have used for my SBLive 5.1

I have tried many hacked Audigy drivers to work on SBLive, but ALL of them have created problems. Not worth the trouble IMHO, the 5.12.1.253s work flawlessly for me.
Hope I've been of some help.

cheers,
thx for your response. i just finished downloading 'em, I'm gonna test them as soon as possible. Do you think these are better than the (also available) 2.83 drivers? I hope at least, as the 2.83 gave me extrem sound stutter in nolf2.

ok, here's what I get:
If ctoem.cfg is not deleted I get a message "No SoundBlaster Card found"
if ctoem is deleted I get "missing disk id file"
Ok, I can install from the respective subfolder (AudioHQ, Surmixer etc.)but why can you install with the main setup.exe while i cannot?

update: I just played Unreal2 with 2.53. I have to say they are not THAT good, cause I had strange crackin sounds. So I revert back to my old original drivers from the CD :(

i personally am using the 283 audigy 2 drivers for my soundblaster live 5.1, and i feel that these are better than the compaq ones that got released well over 6 months ago. if u need help installing them, i will be more than willing to help.

Could you please tell me how to install them and where to download them? (I have a SBLive Value, not 5.1 and Winxp with SP1)

thanks!

I'm having the same problem in Unreal2, but ONLY if EAX is enabled, and the problem happens both with the cracked audigy drivers and the official SBLive drivers. So just disable EAX and the cracking sound should be gone.

Smash,

I'm very curious as to how you got the 283 audigy 2 drivers to work. I tried lots, but couldn't get them to work. Any chance you could write us a mini guide on how to install them? (including links to the actual files)
I've read through many forums, and to be honest, they just confused me, so many different versions out there, and people saying they don't work with liveware, etc, etc.
We'd really appreciate it,

In fact I don't dare to enable EAX in U2 as it is sure to crash after couple of minutes. I heard these crackin sounds definitely w/o EAX enabled. And if I use the drivers from the SBLive installation CD there's no crackin at all. You might ask then why I want to use other drivers, hell the original drivers are damn old (Nov 2001 I believe), I was just curious if I can get better performance with newer ones.

And squuiid I don't know exactly how I did it to install the 283s, it's been quite some time, but I think I installed the software of the 252 package and then simply ran the setup.exe of the 283 driver from station drivers. Maybe I installed them via device manager, as said I don't know exactly anymore.
