SATA RAID ports not used for RAIDing Just want simple drive
Ok I bought a new WD250Gb SATA Hard drive and i ran out of my 2 primary SATA ports on my ASUS K8N-E Deluxe , so I am forced to use my 4 SATA RAID controller ports.

Ok I bought a new WD250Gb SATA Hard drive and i ran out of my 2 primary SATA ports on my ASUS K8N-E Deluxe , so I am forced to use my 4 SATA RAID controller ports. My question is can I use those ports to not RAID but to jus connect it so I can have another drive? If so, how can I make it work, cuz it is not reading! Thanks everyone.

first it would be important to know what chipset your RAID card is using
2nd are you asking in advance or did you already try to connect the device and did get an error or something like that ...
I do not have any experience with other controllers then Silicon Image but working with them ...
there are 2 BIOS versions ... a raid and a non-raid version BUT it was possible to use a single drive on the RAID BIOS
so basically it SHOULD be possible to use single drives on RAID controllers
since it does not really make sense to forbid this ...

Yes it doesn't matter whether it's RAID or not you will just be setting it up as what is known as RAID 0...
You can use the RAID controller to have 4 more SATA drives hooked up. You simply don't set up a RAID that's it.
I've had RAID controllers since the first boards started adding them and have never had a RAID configuration I just simply hook up as many drives as I can add and they are all just normal storage drives.
Even my Asus A7N8X-Deluxe is set up this way I put my DVD-RW and CDRW on the normal IDE controllers and have two 80 Gig SATA Drives on the RAID controller but they are not RAID just single 80 Gig Drives C:, D:.
What's great about them adding all these RAID controllers is you can RAID if you desire for Fault Tolerance or Read, Write speed, but you can have up to like 8 SATA Devices in your system when they add Dual RAID controllers plus the regular IDE. You could simply add a Terrabyte of Drives if you'd like, it's just another one of the great features and with your configuration you could easily do this 250GB x 4 = Terrabyte.
