Hi
I am thinking of upgrading my PC and am thinking of purchasing a new motherboard & a SATA hard drive to go with it.. however I am concerned that since I have 2x IDE hard drive at the moment I am not sure whether it was possible to keep 1 of my IDE drives so that I can use it as a slave & use the new SATA drive as a master or do I need to purchase 2 identical make of drive???(ie..2xSATA OR 2xIDE)
thanks

Yes hercs. In fact you can keep both of your IDE hard drives. Your new mobo should have 2 SATA ports & 2 IDE ports. At the mo' I'm running an ABIT NF7s-2 and have 2 x SATA drives in RAID 0, 2 x Maxtor IDE drives for storage plus DVD drive & CDRW drive. So go for it.
Doogie hit nail on head...
I have 2 SATA drives and have 2 CDRW on one of the IDE Controllers and can still add up to 2 more if I so desire...
That will allow you up to 6 Devices 2 per IDE channel = 4 and 2 SATA...

:D
you can get a SATA -> PATA converter aswell, so you can use your regular ATA drives with SATA cables.
na ... unless you get some of those for free this is the most stupid thing to buy ... you can spend this money much more sensefull on SATA/PATA controllers or just a new and better motherboard
