The fact she is from Birmingham puts me off slightly

As seen below in my system specs i use 512mb pc2700 333mhz ram 2x 256 sticks but it is generic cl2.5 stuff. Does buying kingston and infineon etc branded/named ram make a difference to speed.
I know going from 2.5 to 2 can make a difference but if so what is the difference in buying my generic 2.5 ram and branded 2.5 ram. They are both cl2.5 so why is it better for me to buy branded ram.
Dont they perform the same?
Could buying generic ram severely hamper the performance of my system. I looked in the mobo manual (asus a7s333) and it showed all different types of ram to use on the mobo and said they would work best but not to use generic type ram modules. But i am using them and it works :-? so confused

I bought 512mb generic TwinMos PC2700 CL 2,5 for £45.00. I have this memory runnin O/C at CL2 with max low latency settings and at 2 x 195 = 390 rather than the stock 2 x 166 = 333 speed.
The difference with branded high quality RAM such as Corsair or OCZ is they probably are slightly faster and garunteed good O/C's. Wherby with my generic RAM its a bit of the luck of the draw, and in my case i got lucky and got some highly overclocable and stable generic RAM for a bargin price which runs happily at nerly PC3200 speeds!

glow worm is right.i had samsung ddr 400and i cant OC the memory past 400.i also had a generic ddr266 micron that was able to go up to ddr400 spec. although the micron is generic i was able to push it way past its stock settings. pure luck on my part.
as far as name brand memory, the diff. is its almost guranteed to go past their respected mhz. almost all but still not all.
