Hey guys,

I've got a bit of a problem on my hands. I just upgraded to a Giga-byte GA-7AVXP motherboard and have just installed windows. The only problem is that I can't get windows to recognise the HD and two CD-ROMs on the Raid array (of which has been switched to ATA).

I've reinstalled the driver a number of times. Downloaded the latest one from Giga-byte and had a look in the bios but I can't get XP to see them.

Anyone got any suggestions?

hey mate,

Thanks for the relpy but I can't find the different driver you were talking about on that site. Any chance of a direct link?

Cheers,

I had a similar problem installing a RAID array with a GA7VRXP. Here is how I solved it: I created the RAID array in BIOS then partitioned and formatted it in FDISK using a Windows ME Start-Up disk. The reason for using the one from ME is that previous versions (95, 98, 98SE) of FDISK won't give you the correct drive information or partition sizes.
You'll need to extract the Promise stuff from the Zip file onto a floppy disc before the next step. Set your system to boot from the CD-ROM and hit F6 at the first screen after "Inspecting your system configuration" or something like that shows up. It will be the first blue screen (NOT the BSOD!) and press F6 and hold it for about 10 seconds. Some files will load and you'll get a prompt about installing addittional controllers. Press S and put the floppy into your A drive. Follow the directions from there. Make sure to leave the floppy in until you get the prompt to remove it before restarting the machine. After the o/s is installed go back into BIOS and set it to boot from the RAID array. Remember that SATA has prioty over IDE for booting. Have fun...

But the problem is that I dont' want a raid array I want to use it as two extra ATA connections, like I previously did on my old Epox 8K7A+.

I've selected ATA as the raid controllers function in the bios and I downloaded the latest Promise drivers from giga-byte but everytime I go to install them the system freezes.

hi,

Just a quick update on my problem.

Last night I disconnected the two cdroms that I had connected to the Primary connection on the ATA/RAID array.

The system booted and showed the 1 harddisc on the second array and installed the driver no problem.

But then when I put all my hard discs on the ata/RAID array (2x on Primary and 1x HDDs on the secondary) the system crashed and did the same again.

Any ideas? Perhaps the primary ata/raid connection is F**ked.

If so I'm gonna get on the phone first thing Monday morning!!!

OK in that cas it is not a driver problem ... on my system he just always showed nothing only with the right driver but if you see it in special config .....

checked Master and slave settings ?!

hey guys,

I've tried a few new configurations and it seems that the array screws up whenever there is a primary slave on the ATA/RAID port.

If I just have one single hard disc on it works ok.
