poor 5900xt performance

i have just got an Aopen FX 5900xt and im benchmarking it and i only get 190 FPS in quake3. thats in 1024x768, 32bit, high quality etc
my pc spec is:
XP barton 3000+
768mb 333Mhz ddr
KuDoz 7X/600 motheboard
Aopen FX 5900xt
im using the newest drivers for everything and even tried old drivers. ive tried in windows ME and windows XP with no change.
this spec gets 254fps
AMD XP 2600+ Throughbred/2800+ Barton
Leadtek K7NcR18D Nforce 2
256mb 3200 Crucial DDR
ive tried other benchmarks with the same find of results!

thats fully OK, too seems like just you OpenGL is slow ... thats just a question of an option ... check atuner and you'll be fine
and yes over 128 its useless but there is also no reason not to do so ... its simply equal since you can set it to 512 when having 256 MB RAM its just for fun
