Overclocking ti4200's
Is it safe to just download rivatuner and slap in the highest values that dont crash or is there anything else I should know that is really important (No Warranty will be void )

i agree with YngwieII
basically set the clocks up about 15 % then run games / benchmarks for a bit. if u see gfx probs like dodgy textures.. flashing whiter dots then back down / if not keep increasing till ya do.
If its any guide i got my Albatron Ti4200p Turbo to hit 305/700.. but it does use 3.3 BGA ram

I got the old style Albatron Ti4200 w/128MB. Supposedly the regular 128MB Ti4200's are clocked at something like 444 (memory), but mine was clocked at 500 right out of the box.
I have since clocked it up to 270/520. This isn't anything close to pushing this card...I don't know how long I will have it (potentially for a year or two). I don't want to ride it too hard.
Supposedly, silicon chips have a 'life span'. The harder you push it, the shorter the life.
I think at stock speeds, most silicon is supposed to last a couple decades. So you have some room to play with. ;p
But, I don't know how fast the life goes down the closer you go to the heat and speed limit of your chips.
For instance, I had an old Geforce2 GTS-V before this. I clocked it as hard as it would go when I had it, and then gave it to a friend afterwards who kept the aggressive settings. The GPU died a couple weeks ago, I guess from stress. It was running as hard as I could get it to go without causing problems for about two years. Maybe this is normal, maybe this is a rare case. I don't know.
I'd go about 5 or 10mhz below whatever the most aggressive setting is, unless you're going to get a new Geforce FX in about a year anyway.

Well thanks for your help. Now one last question, as I'm not computer illeterate, but I'm scared I might burn my card if I go too....optimistic. What would you say I can overclock my PNY Verto ti4200 card ? (64Mb, 4xAGP). And I think it might have already been answered, but will I need any extra cooling ? Oh and another question - Does using the RivaTuners "test" option actually mean its safe or does it just mean my card can take it...for now ?
thanks squall, i sent u an e-mail. to answer ur question killer, i never really liked riva tuner. try using power strip, or even a tool that pny has (if any, i know leadtek has winfox, and a couple others have there own), but i've had best results at 300 core, and like 550 memory, best scores, and best performance.
Well I got Rivatuner. Started in small steps. Got up to 285/555...
Needless to say I am now very scared. No problems in the 10 seconds that followed. Then the screen came off. The back on. Then a reboot. I managed to start windows up. Then it rebooted again. I came back into windows and quickly slapped in the default values before it rebooted again.
Now I'm worried about two things :
Have I damaged my PNY ti4200 ?
Have I damaged anything else ?
And the other question :
What can stock cooling take it to and/or what have I done wrong in this case ?

So you're saying that with stock cooling and a new video BIOS (*.rom) I can go to 300-600 with no problems whatsoever ?
Aslong as you have a good air flow
