Overclock question about 2600+

Hi, I`ve managed to get a AthlonXP 2600+ 333FSB to boot & stay stable at 2.2Ghz using 200FSB*11 memory @333(166*2)(83%) and 2.13Ghz using 170FSB*12.5 memory 340(170*2)(100%) so my question is which is the faster of the two ? The reason i ask is at 2.

Hi,

and 2.13Ghz using 170FSB*12.5 memory 340(170*2)(100%)
so my question is which is the faster of the two ?

The reason i ask is at 2.2Ghz UT2003 runs ok, but pauses everytime you fire a weapon, where as @ 2.13Ghz it doesn`t ??????

Any ideas guys

Cheers

its the memory or the higher FSB ... I know these problems when I have OCed my Ti4200 too much u have to run @ 200 FSB or 166 to get it fully stable my mobo has not the same problem but its also a matter of stability .... 200 FSB works flawless ... but as soon as I go 202 or 204 MHz system get instable ... even if I lower RAM and CPU multi ...

If you're getting 200MHz out of PC2700 DDR, then you're obviously doing something right. That's a fairly substantial over-clock, depending on who's ram you're running. Since you didn't give any info as to how aggressively you're pushing the ram (timing) or the voltage it's running at, it's a bit difficult to advise you on where to go from here ... aside from the obvious (always run your system at it's most stable settings to avoid data corruption).

It could just be that you're pushing the ram beyond it's capabilities. It simply may not be able to run stable at 200+MHz with either aggressive or relaxed timing. It may also need a bit more voltage but not knowing what voltage you're currently running at on the ram or what your motherboard is capable of, it's hard to recommend any settings.

Generally speaking, as you push your ram more aggressively, you need to do whatever it takes to get your system to run stable. That may include relaxing the timing a bit and/or cranking up the voltage on both the ram and the CPU. You would also stand a better chance of a more stable system by running DDR400 (PC3200) ram instead of DDR333 (PC2700). It may very well be THE best PC2700 ram on the planet but I guarantee that it was NOT designed to run at 200MHz.

Later.

PC2700 @ PC3200 is normal .... my really no name RAM before the corsair also ran @ 170 MHz with 2-2-2-5 even tho it was really cheap PC2100 RAM

OP
Hi,

Thanks for the replys.....Had the memory running quite slow which i didn`t realise until i went back to 170FSB*12.5.
It was set to 8,4,4 Cas3T default voltage...think the only thing i changed was the cpu voltage from 1.650 to 1.700.
running @ 170FSB i have the mem set to 6,3,3 Cas2T everything else default.... volts, settings, etc....

What i don`t get is the separate settings for FSB & memory on nForce boards...FSB200 while the memory works @166 or @83%, How the hell does that work ?

I had my 2600+ running stable at 2411,78 MHz (air cooled)

Hardware:
Mainboerd: Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2
Processor: AMD 2600+ Tb (FSB 266 MHz)
Cooler: Aero 7+
Case: Lian Li 6089A
Power: Enermax 365 FMA
Memory: 512 MB no name

BIOS version: F5
Frequency: 2411,78
FSB: 172,27 MHz

I didn't try if it could go any higher yet.

I'm running it now at 2260 MHz (13.5 x 167 MHz FSB)
