nForce 420
strangely, I can find nothing about this on the ProLink website. Not doubting it, just wondering where the more info is located. .

The nForce 420 is a chipset not a mainboard...
Which brand mainboard are you after?
The sound on the chipset is surprisingly good for onboard sound...
In fact better than the SBLive!
The CPU utilization is significantly lower as well which means your games run faster as less CPU power is lost controlling the sound
The performance of the onboard video isn't amazing but it's respectable...
Its about on par with a GF2 MX400.

Oh right, thanks for explaining.

Cooler Master CPU Fan Socket A/7/FCPGA DP5-7H53F-0C, Up to 1,4GHz and XP2200+
DDR-DIMM PC2100 256MB DDR CL2.5 Generic Memory 184-Pins
MSI K7N420 PRO Mainboard. Socket A, DDR nForce420, ATA/100, ATX, DDR (MS-6373)
Price: €360.
What kind of clock speeds/video RAM would the graphics have?

Not sure...
But I assume the clocks will be around the GF2 MX400 clock speed.
I think you should ditch the idea of a NForce mainboard and just go with a graphics card such as the Radeon 8500 (about 80-100 USD, $200-250 AUD).
The NForce chipset isn't really a top performer either...
In most cases, the KT266A chipset beats it.
