i just got an Abit NF7, and was reading about the great sound it has. I have a logitech z540 4.1 system, and want to upgrade that , but i need the money first hehe. anyway, i was wondering if it has this great Nforce sound, and all the great reviews, i don't understand why i'm having so many problems with it. I was a little dissapointed that there was no sound application, to monitor, or change the sound and such. my last mobo had its own program, and so does my friends, and its quite useful. this motherboard doesn't seem to have any support for it when it comes to audio. Also, EAX 1,2 and 3 always come up as options in games like BF Vietnam, and Call of Duty, but they never work. In vietnam, it says it can't find the sound provider, and in call of duty, it just keeps changing it back to miles fast 2d sound. In UT2k3, when i put it on hardware 3d, there is no sound at all. I only get sound when its on software 3d. I was just wondering why its being so weird with the sound. any help would be great. Thanks!

If you can get it to work it's great but I'm affraid the drivers are still full of bugs and give a lot of problems. Get an audigy 1 (they are cheap nowdays, 40 bux or less) and disable the nforce sound. I did that... the nforce sound is a nightmare, I couldn't stand its problems. Remember the nforce sound still rellies on a cheap alc650/655 chipset.

but i´m very happy with that Nforce sound
--> I <--- don´t need the mega sound and for listing to music and "normal" Gaming this sound is ok !

only if u want to feel the Game then u should buy an extra Soundcard
but like i said, for normal users, the NForce sound is ok

btw: what do u have for bugs?
I had since loooooong months NO PROBS !!!
i can remember some probs with that sound but that was long time ago!

as I know there is a difference between NF7 and NF7-s / laters
I am not 100% sure but does NF7 already use soundstorm ?
anyway
the logitech Z560 (I own) is AWESOME !!!!!! and I really mean awesome for that money
if ya want real stuff you can get the Z680 but it cost 3 times as much
while it has only a digital decoder and one more satelite .... that was my reason to choose the Z560
is damn cheap ... 4 speakers can fully emulate 5.1 and the power is just awesome ...
188W subwoofer and 50W sats ... you can shake anythign with that ...
I am a Bass freak ... but this set is so damn good I have even set the BASS in windows to 40% instead of 50% because its to damn heavy when listening music all the time ....
for movies and games its just AWESOME again ;)

Hi there

From what i can gather the NF7 doesnt have Soundstorm as the southbridge is only the MCP and not the MCP-T which the NF7-s uses. NF7 uses some form of AC97 Coded i think.

They both use the same northbridge chip tho.

Installing the latest 3.13 chipset drivers from Nvidia should give you a sound mixer type application. Did on mine when i was trying out the sound.

I prefer my audigy 1 tho

OP
thanks guys, yeah newegg (which is usually acurate) said that the NF7 had soundstorm and stuff, i guess they used the same specs for the NF7 and NF7-S. so thats y i thought i had it. I dloaded the AC97 codec, and it works fine now. although i still may consider that audigy 1... :D
