New card.
Well I didn't know where to put this as it talks about both cards, but if a moderator isn't happy about where this is then feel free to move it where you think its needed.

My GF4 ti4200 card is destroyed, so I sent the pc in to see if I could save it. I couldn't. So they gave me a MX440 and I have till tuesday to decide what new card I should buy. Seeing as I cannot pass €300 (or $300, or £200 - whichever currency you use, but I live in France) what card is the best to buy. I cannot wait for any new ones to come out and I need it to last me as long as possible. Ideas ?
I thought about a Radeon 9700 non-pro...or those ti4800...but I'm really not sure.
If you know I can get a 9700 pro from France for less than 300 euros then tell me where by the way :P

I would recommand you to get a Radeon 9500 cause if you compare the speed with Geforce ti 4200 & 4400 Radeon kill them all and the price is in your range.
If you are getting a Redeon 9500, buy the one with Hynix (may spell wrongly) not samsung cause it is newer and boost up the speed.
i was thinking of going to Radeon 9500 last time but too bad i can't find one after a lot a lot of window shoping at last i end up with Geforce ti 4200. :cry:

Well I've just found an R9700 non-pro for 289 euros...that better ?
Dont bother getting the Ti4200 x8 AGP 128MB because its frame rate beats the Ti4200 64MB version by only about 2 or 3 :roll: . The 64MB version beats the 128MB (non x8 AGP) which is fact (source: Toms Hardware). So as squall said, get the 9500 but if you can squeeze the Pro in then do it because their is a big difference .

Yeah I can squeeze a 9500 pro - But will a 9700 non-pro work ? (since i can squeeze that in too)
Thanks a lot...I have seen a 10 to 15 fps difference in the cards and about 1000 3dmarks on TomsHardware...but I may try to get a pro from my parents
Oh I forgot the most important question...my motherboard only has 4x AGP. Will the radeons still perform well ?

I think GeForce 4 Ti 4800 is the best. GeForce FX 5900 Ultra is the best in all Nvidia graphic cards which is coming very soon. My favourite card is GeForce 4 Ti 4800. I am getting it next in my new computer. It's graphic comes really really good. It is also one of the best graphic cards of Nvidia. So I am going for GeForce 4 Ti 4800. It is the best. If you're an nVidia fan and would like to stick with nvidia cards TI4800 is your best bet, but if you're looking for a new card then 9700 all the way
Yes TI4800 is like a TI4600 with 8x AGP.

If you looked at reviews you would see that 9500Pro would beat out the TI4200 along with 9700(non) beating out TI4600, but if you're looking at the best out of all the ones in the poll i would say 9700(try to squeeze it pro if possible)

After owning two ATI cards, the Rage Fury, and more recently, the 8500 Pro, I swore that I would never buy an ATI card again. I don't know how good the catalyst drivers are, but I do know that all drivers prior to that were terrible, and most games required endless tweaking just to get to run. Also, when I "upgraded" from a GeForce256 to the 8500 Pro, many games seemed to run a lot slower, Counter-Strike being perfect on the 256, and a chore to play on the 8500. Maybe ATI have changed, maybe the catalysts are good drivers that actually work in most gaes, never is a strong word, and I must admit to being curious to trying out the 9800 Pro. That said, based on my experience, I wouldn't buy anything from ATI other than the 9800 Pro, and if that was out of my price range, I'd just buy the best Nvidia card that I could afford - I've never had anything but good experiences with all of the Nvidia hardware I've owned.
well in the recent past ATI was know for their lack of driver support, 8500 (imo) was when it all started, after the driver improvements and newer drivers releasing the the 8500 got better... the 8500 steadily improved and everything after that has gotten better considering they did have the hardware but the software wasnt as great
my bro has an 8500 and he loves it, he is thinking of getting a 9700 Pro or AIW, from my experiences also with ati, they have gotten better and their product showed true quality... if i was to get a new card i would go for a 9800P or wait for one of their upcoming new products, but thats from my experiences :D
