Need to format a drive

Its a monster! Too much in the one package for my liking! Anyone use this as an alternative to a combination of smaller utes? How have u found it? Is it as good as using a combination of smaller more narrowly focussed apps? ciao, jedl

I need to format my smartmedia card as FAT12 for my MP3 Player
Windows only does it as FAT16/32

Does anyone know of a utility that I can use to format it as FAT12?

Yes there is, windows will only do it on <=32 MB drives though (e.g. floppy disks). I need to force it on 128.

and you are sure it wont work with fat16?

if they require a spacial filesystem theres usually some tools with the drive.

actually i looked it up, and 32mb is the max physical limit for fat12 partitions. (like 2gb is for fat16)
so it has to work with another filesystem.

i did some google search and it seems like smartmedia supports both fat12 and fat16.

my secure digital card that are somewhat similar to smartmedia uses fat16 and my compactflash also fat16

No, with a 32 KB cluster size one can have a 128 MB FAT 12 partition. I know what I need to do, I just need to find software to do it.

I know the Smartmedia card supports FAT12/16 (and 32) but the MP3 player does not, it only supports FAT12

There are no tools, I basically have just the SM card and my old MP3 player which lets it function as a removable disk

Ah, finally...I was able to install a transfer driver for creative's repugnant playcenter and dig through it, and was able to format the card.
