Hi guys,
I'm having a bit of a problem with my mouse. I've been having it for about a month or more now and can't for the life of me work out whats causing it. I've recently reformatted and installed my system again and it still happens.
My Problem is that sometimes, while I'm using the PC or when it's left overnight, my mouse pointer freezes in the middle of the screen. BUT I can still move the house and click, for example the mouse pointer can stick at the top of the screen but I can move to the bottom left and click and the start menu will come up and I can see my mouse pointer moving over the items in the start menu.
Someone help me it's really starting to piss me off now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't really get what you mean, is there two mouse pointer? My idea is to get a cheap new mouse or borrow one from your friend for testing purpose. If reformating can't helps, that would simply mean other software trigger this problem or driver (since mouse don't require driver, it might not be it) or hardware (the mouse itself). Is your mouse USB?
Edit:
Do you mean your mouse pointer is jumping all over the screen? If that's it, i am sure your mouse is almost dead.

you don't get what I mean. Its not my mouse I've only just bought myself a new MS wireless explorer to replace my old one.
The problem I have is this.
The mouse pointer FREEZES it' just sticks randomly on the screen. BUT I can still move the pointer (BUT YOU CAN'T SEE IT!!!).
So the mouse pointer might be stuck up in the top right but if I use the keyboard to navigate into the start menu and I move the mouse arround I can see an invisible mouse pointer highlighting the options in the start menu.

it's definitley not anything to do with the mouse as it's happened with both my new leather wireless explorer and my old one.
I'm thinking it's something more to do with software. I noticed that when I made the fresh install of XP it didn't do it. But when i installed all the cumulative patches off windows update my problems started.

I dont know,
But its definatly a memory problem.
Check timings.

and this happens only over night?
-update m$ drivers
-update display drivers
-go to device manager and click on your mouse and disable "alllow turning device off"
-check irqs
-lower memory cycle timings in bios
-(disable acpi) maybe some device are not working properly when waking up from suspend
stories like that happens often due to overclocking memory/cpu/gpu

it's doesn't just do it at night. sometimes it can do it while I'm using the computer.
Plus I don't use any form of suspend or sleep mode when I say my computers on I mean it's completely on but only the monitor is turned off.
I have to leave it on because I'm running a number of servers that need to be kept on.
