I saw a pic of gigabyte Maya II Radeon 9500 non pro(64mb) in my town. It is red PCB and the ram is in L-shaped. It really looks like the MAYA II 9700 Pro. My question is, will this card be able to mod to the 9700, and even if i can mod to the 9700, how much improvement will i get in gaming? The other question is, is it worth to get the MAYA II 9500 with 64MB or to get a 9600pro with 128MB?
Thanks everyone in advance.

you need a 9500 with 128 to be able to mod it to a 9700...
the 64 mb versions cold only be modded to a 9500 pro...
besides i dont noe if any other 9500's other than sapphire's black pcb was moddable.
you're a bit late out, cause the moddable 9500's what pulled from production ages ago...

So will it worth if i get the Radeon 9600pro(power color)? Cause i heard 9600 doesn't did so good in gaming compare with 9500pro.
the 9600 is supposedly a good overclocker, but it cannot be modded to anything.
the modding days are over :P

You can still luck out and get a moddable card, I went out and bought one just yesterday and got an L-shaped card, Connect3D, plain ATI rebadge. Modded it to a 9700 without any problem.
As for 9500 pro vs 9600 pro I'd say they are about even when oc'd. The 9600 is a bit better in some tests and 9500 better in others (9600 has much higher clockrate, but 9500 has 8 pipelines(?)). Of course the 9500 pro is near impossible to get these days so you're probably best off buying a 9600 pro which also is cheaper anyway. You can always chance at getting an L-shaped 9500 non-pro, but then it's still only roughly a 30% chance that it can be modded without checkerboarding. Sitting with a 9500 when a 9600 pro only costs a few bucks more isn't too cool.

Well at last i have decided to go for 9600pro cause i don't want to press my luck on 9500 which has only 30% chances to mod to 9700. Thanks everyone. :P

lies, 3 weeks ago i ordered a Sapphire 9500 128mb card from newegg.com (red pcb) when i got it i had success at modding it to a 9700, although i sometimes get a checkerboard here and there it runs great, it's a 50/50 deal though, have fun!
As long as the 9600 has a good heatsink, most likely a maya or a sapphire, you can probably get a little bit more out of it. From what I have heard, the 9500 is still the best for oc'ing
