Hello. I am about to plan my custom pc but when it comes to cases I dont have a clue!

I know that my motherboard will have to be a ATX but the case sizes are doing my head in!
My motherboard will be something like a Nvidia NForce 4 (non-sli, socket 939).

Questions:
-Is it best to go for a mid-tower or full tower?
-Whats the best for sound and cooling?
-Will my motherboard fit ok?
-Will any PSU fit into the tower?
-Some towers have USB, mic & sound ports at the front, will my motherboard have to have extra ports to get them working or will I connect some cable from the motherboard to the front ports?

Sorry for all the questions, its just very baffling.

Thanks in advance!

ok.....

-Whats the best for sound and cooling?
Big Tower

-Will my motherboard fit ok?
of course! (everthing are standard sizes)

-Will any PSU fit into the tower?
of course! (everthing are standard sizes)

-Some towers have USB, mic & sound ports at the front
there are some ports on board u can connect these things from the FPanel
(but i never used them)

-Is it best to go for a mid-tower or full tower?
depends on what u want , if u´ re going to LAN every weekend, go for midi
if not, and it´ s standing on it´s place for years, the best is big-tower
i used a big for years....and that was very good, because of the space,
but the prob is, the big are not as long as midi tower
that´ s no prob for the PSU....it´s fixed at a very high level
and if u want to use a watercooling and some other Modding stuff like bays etc u should go for big tower, too
btw: my next case is a big tower again

(i changed topic,so others can read it better on HP)

that really depends on what you want
nearly every PC sold is a midi tower
big tower does not really make sense for the average user.
but there are also somekind of things like my tower which is somewhere in the middle between big and midi tower

you may have a look at the
http://www.overclockercafe.com/Reviews/cases/Tt_Shark/

overall I am very pleased with the case
the most important thing for me was the weight when I searched for a new case and I found this one to be the lightest with the most space

Thanks for the edit

Ok well from what I understand so for I guess it's good if I go for a Big Tower but I can't seem to find as much range on them but will look.
Either way a midi-tower also seems like a good choice.

That Shark that you posted up Merstch, is that a good one?
Whats a really good and reliable tower, big or midi but not say over £150...

As for the porst on the front of the board, when looking for the mobo, will it specify if it has these? I mean the Shark one that you put Merstch has the ports on the side :hmm:

Thanks again for the help :D

This is the classical Big Tower.....really good, but not the best anymore
This is a really cool case in my eyes (for alu cases and the best of the art u have to spend too much money)

of course, like mertsch said, the most sold Cases are midi
but u´ll find some good bigtowers, too

At first I was a bit disappointed due to some small issues
like the lock on the front got broken the first day like all those cheap locks
but OK I never use it anyway and the magnets that should hold the front are so weak that they do not hold it a single bit maybe there are even any

but space wise its great
its light
everything is robust
the layout is clever
and the air flow is very good

I know the price is quite high but I do not regret the investment and most alu towers are 100+€

I have some pics here

Oh nice. Your midi-tower looks quite big compared to that little white one. Nice setup too their Merstch.

Whats yours look like Biene? Btw thanks for the links. Those towers look HUGE lol but nicely built though.

Think i'll go for a midi though. From what i've seen (thanks to all your help) the big tower is a lil' too big for my liking.

hehe the tower next to it is a mini tower
when I bought all components, the case I ordered was really bad packed and I got 2 damaged ones.
this case was a very old one I had to use for LAN

take a look at this thread

it´s a low-budget, and with watercooling etc it´s going smaller and smaller
but it is a midi-tower! and all the PATA cables...if there is no space to use for them, then everything is full of cables....again, with big tower it would be better...or using SATA :)

lol nice. gotta say, thats a messed up PC lol.

Well ultimately after a few hours of research and reading ive summed it upto TWO candidates:

1:

Lian-Li PC-V1000 PLUS Black. £120-130.

2:

Thermaltake VA9000SWA Kandalf Aluminium Full Tower. £100-110.

All I need to do now is google some reviews of both and see, which comes out on top

I thought of the Lian-Li PC-V1000, too
but the price was too high for me but is the difference is relativly small - should be considered
