IS ONBOARD SOUND WORTH UPGRAPDADING??

i have an msi 845 AR with onboard cmedia sound. i have a 2.1 setup and i know im not going to make full use of 5/7 speakers. i listen to a lot of music and i find it sounds better from my md player even when i use low grade lp4 mode.

Onboard sound stinks and frame rate in games are slower.

Go with an Audigy 2 :hail:

I remember a buddy of mine had the chipmunk voices on the Desert Combat MoD.He had onboard sound, then upgraded to the Audigy 2 sounds where back to normal.

I think you mean "EaX" its for soundblaster cards.

I'd always say go for a descent sound card.

it doesn't matter if you're only going to use 2.1 if thats the case just go for the entry level audigy 2 even with a speaker setup as yours you'll notice a hell of alot of difference in both PC performance and sound quality.

Onboard sound mostoften sucks. The only good chip I know is the SoundStorm unit on the nForce boards. I have one and don't feel the need to buy an extra card. But if I had "some other" onboard chip, I would buy an Audigy 2 ZS card.

Hi there

EAX Stands for " Environmental Audio eXtensions " and is basically a way of making the sounds you hear have more depth. For instance if your playing a game that supports EAX and you go into a cave the sound will then sound hollow and echoed.

Only the Soundblaster Cards support EAX on hardware, but alot of cards are now emuilation EAX mainly the SoudStorm chip

but if you want to get EAX on anything else but a soundstorm or an actual creative card your performance will be slowed down due to it being handled by software.

I think thats what he wanted to say ... only a soundblaster is a REAL soundblaster .. no cheap shit ... btw ... an Audigy ain't really expensive and a SBLIVE you can get almost for free

huh....i own a Soundlaster 16 (16bit) *g*
maybe i should use this card in my Linux-Machine ...mhhh

but i think we always come to the same
if u own SoundStorm, u donĀ“t really need to buy an extra Card, or u are an extreme gamer and u want to feel like to be ingame...
but i think if u buy good speakers like 5.1 then Soundstorm is good enough

and with all other SoundChips,
i think if u can spend some money to a sound-box, do it and buy it
