Help. Soundblaster Live Drivers Disappearing!!
Have been using a Soundblaster Live card with Windows XP. Problem is that once system is restarted, the sound drivers disappear. If I re-install audigy-type, kx-type or soundblaster-type drivers again and DO NOT re-start machine as requested.... drivers work perfectly until I restart again.
I have tried deleting every sound driver place I could find drivers including registry, Inf, add/remove, system32, device manager etc.
Have even removed drivers, removed sound card, replaced it with other card which works perfectly, removed it and replaced it with Soundblaster Live and have experienced the same loss of drivers upon restart. Have been unsuccessful emailing CREATIVE.
Anyone out there ever experienced this....?
Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

You're probably right about that, Rancho -- obviously want that to be the last option. At the moment, the pain still isn't great enough.
Been using this as my main system and have everything but the kitchen sink installed. I also have three other secondary Operating Systems installed on other partitions. The sound, of course. works just fine on all three.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Youve tried stock drivers?
To Mertsch & NIKEMARINE: I think that the original driver install were the Microsoft Soundblaster drivers from the XP CD. I have since attempted to delete or uninstall any and all Microsoft/Soundblaster/aftermarket drivers and attempted to install any and all of the above drivers again with no success, including stock drivers from the CD and 'stock' Microsoft drivers.
My fear is that Rancho will be correct that this is now one of those Microsoft screwups where somewhere in the registry there is now instructions which cancel the effect of the drivers because the Device Manager always shows the sound drivers as happily installed -- just no sound.
Thanks again.

First off, is your XP pro or home? I think I remember reading that home version automaticly installs the best driver version without user intervention.
You should probably remove all the INF files that have to do with your sound card. c:winntinfoem*.inf :D

To roadrun777: In this installation, I have XP Home. I duall boot 3 other operating systems that have no problem.
Ultimately, I think Zorro is right:"It's just some m$ registry fuckup... "
In the meantime, I want to thank everyone who has tried to help. All in all I have tried everything includingthe suggestions here from every slot to removing every sound inf etc. etc.
I think we've all been here: re-install on restart or wipe!!! Another Soundblaster/M$ marvel!!!!!!
