Geforce FX Benchmark
What do you think about the new GeforceFX benchmarks? Me wonders why the radeon is so close. . . . . . only wid Quake3 you have really more frames. UT and 3DMark looks nearly similiar.

also wondering why this "unofficial" test got another results:

now UT got more frames and Quake looks almost the same...
strange.

I'm deeply disappointed...
In the links attached you can see that in game "nature" the difference is 4-5 fps!
that's so lame of nvidia to bring out a card like that.
i'm ashamed to own a card produced by that company.
though! i love nvidia, and always bought only their cards and chipsets. i hope these results dont reflect on the true nature of the card, cause then i'll have to replace my nv card to ATI's card.

i suppose well have 2 wait a bit for official release cards to turn up!
i 2 will hold judgement until then.
but even so did u see the 3dMark score... 25000+ u gotta admit that theres some horsepower in that card.
but wot an ugly lookin card
anyway has anyone got any idea of how much its gonna cost? any official prices set yet?

Anyways, we're all forgeting the small and important fact, that ATI up untill recently produced low-end graphics cards.
and when someone wanted to buy a strong card, ATI was the last thing (even if) on his mind.
only now after the radeon 8500, they by chance found their way into the high-end cards.
shall we not forget, that once (long time a go ) 3dfx dominated the high-end cards and that nVidia was just a small company with no reputation. After nVidia proved itself as a leading of the cutting edge graphic card designer, 3dfx was considered as the underdog of this industry.
and we all know what happened next - nvidia bought 3dfx.
Now i'm not saying that the same thing is going to happen with ATI, but think of it that way, unless nv is going to come up with a card that is REALLY mind blowing, ATI (with their fresh insight of the market) might be the next high end producing card.
Delays in production of nv30 (because they waited for the 0.13 mic' to be available) cause ATI to have a leading window in the time frame over Nvidia with their high-end card Radeon 9700 Pro.
That has never happened before.
If nvidia had produced their card on time, they might have the domination of the market today.
Last but not least, when nvidia declared in public about the Geforce 4 Ti series on of the worlds leading games 3d engines designer - john cramack had said that releasing a card like this (nv25 - geforce4 ti) was a shame for nvidia.
Just something to think about

The FX card even if its performance is TWICE as powerful as the Radeon 9700 Pro( which isnt likely) isnt going to do much for Nvidia's troubles.
first one high end gaming card isnt going to do much for them. the bread and butter cards ( that pay the bills) are the low end and mainstream cards. Nvidia has nothing to compete with ATI in those categories and wont have for some time yet. and more than likely given past actions they will simply overclock some G4's and slap a new name on them.
second is going to be price, I saw on a european forum info on a company that is promising FX cards for sale on Jan 22 the price in US Dollars is 750.00. even if it si a bit cheaper when it goes on sale in the US how many people who arent Nvidia freaks are going to be willing to pay what will probably be twice the price of what you will be able to purchase a Radeon 9700 Pro at. and dont forget that ATI's R350 chip card is right around the corner and they are claiming they will be bringing in the R350 chip at the same price the 9700 Pro launced at.

if anyones interested, i found the Club3D FX in this online shop:

Only €696? I guess I'm gonna buy 2 of them ... :)

heh
lol
i wrote alot without paying attantion :D
you also gotta remember that Vid Cards is not the only business Nvidia is in, their nforce2 chipset is the best chipset on the market for AMD based systems, so Vid cards is not their only source of income, given that its where most of their money comes from right now, but they are new in the chipset market and already have a great chipset after only their second try at it.
Nvidia isnt going anywhere anytime soon

I wonder why this card has been delayed so much , this isn't usual for nvidia . The FX means that ex-3DFX employes have been working on it , and this delay is a mystery ...
First i thought about nvidia having problems with DDR2 memory but 2 months after the launch of R9700pro , ati presented a 9700 with DDR2 inside , so this tech wouldn't be a problem for nvidia months after .
Or this could be 0.13 tchnology fiability problems , maybe . This one could gives big heat assuming the alienware prototype came with a very massive heatsink , so maybe too much noise also ?
Could that be a performance worry , that could be ... if the ex-3DFX came to work with , this should be like the geforce was to the tnt , a brand new design . Like for ati which bought art-x , and the new team made two chips the one for the gamecube and the r9700 , two brilliant pieces . So this new nvidia design could give some drivers performances issues at the moment .
Wait and see ...

The Price will be NVidia's doom. Not the quality of the card.
There two greatest reasons a hardware becomes the 'gamers choice' is:
a) Its what all friends have
Biggest bang for the buck
There's not a single computer that doesnt run NVidia + AMD here, and thats amoung a bunch of 30 20-30y olds. The only thing that can motivate us to go different is if some frontier decides to go option B.
AMD was the biggest bang for the buck, and still is I presume. Now its ATI.
If NVidia releases FX Ultra at several $100 above ATI's pricetag, than I defenitly know what label will be on this bunch's graphiccards in the next couple of years...
I guess the majority of the gamers will follow the same road. The loss for NVidia will be great. They dont offer much for traditional business like Intel does, so they have no market to back em up. They will need a couple of years to get back on line if they can ever recover. 3dFx never did, and they where 'the gamers choice' for a long time.

And the deal is that Nvidia managed a BIG marketing propaganda about the GeforceFx , remember what they were proudly saying annoucing this card : "mainly THE big revolution" .
I think most of us are truly disapointed about final GeforceFX , also the disapointment is proportional to this huge marketing campaign they have made .
Maybe Nvidia could loose , for lots of time the crown of performance 3D cards but they've done a great job on the nforce 2 mobo chipset so future will has always show which way Nvidia will go on .

How can anyone say the FX is good or better than a radeon ( by that im assuming the 9700/9800 ). Have none of you read the reviews?
Its oversized
Its very noisy
Its not that fast
Its only fast with cheating drivers giving poor quality
Its not in mass production (and probably wont be)
There are NO WHQL drivers for it because to qualify it would have to be using 24bit FP or more ( and would be slow )
Running a screensaver on it could cause it to burn up !!
Its exspensive
Its powerhungry
The 9700 may still have a few driver issues, but these are being sorted. In every way the FX is outgunned. I can wait to see how the new Xabre and deltachrome compare to the 5200 and 5600.
Im not against nvidia at all, i have an nforce 2 mobo and a GF4 ti (and a 9700) but the FX is just plain bad. Anyone disagree? If so why ?

1. It covers the top PCI slot, that is unuseable when there is a AGP board in the AGP slot. If you never plugged a Soundcard or LAN board into your top PCI slot, try it. Its fun.
2. It produces as much noise than your average CPU fan.
3. It is a bit faster than Radeon 9700, and a bit slower than the *UNAVAILABLE SO WHO CARES* Radeon 9800.
4. The latest official drivers are ok.
5. It have been produced in enough quantity to let thoose that want it get it.
6. Who uses a WHQL driver?
7. A bit testing, but not yet proved, and likely adressed in a future patch.
8. The ASUS card is as cheap as the Radeon 9700 Pro cards.
9. How?
I do not own a GF FX, nor intend to buy one. Im just annoyed by your bending of facts.
As far as I concern GF FX is an ok card for thoose that likes to stick with the detonator drivers and does not care about FSAA/AF. I personally run everything in 1940x1440 without fithering and are fine by that. It will probably be replaced soon enough with another graphiccard, but that doesnt give enough reason to outright hate the card.

I did own a GF FX actually.
1. i use my first PCI slot (broadband modem), never been an issue , im using XP
2. It produced a LOT more noise than your average CPU fan. When in 3D mode it sounds similar to a super loud delta fan. You can here it in a different room no problem.
3. It is only faster than a 9700 when you are using the cheat drivers and NO AA or AF. If you use max AA and AF the 9700 is up to 5X faster (see nordichardware).
4. The latest drivers are still cheating and wouldnt qualify for WHQL.
5. All my drivers are WHQL, maybe thats why i never have crashes.
6. The overheat issue has been proved and i had it. It maybe a hardware issue and unfixable without a bios update, which many may not know how to do.
7. The non pro 9700 can be had for as little as £185, the geforce FX 5800 is a lot more than that. The non pro 9700 can overclock to as much as 400/350, the FX wouldnt stand a chance.
8. The FX uses more power than a 9700 or 9800 about 10 to 20 watts more at least.
9. The 9800 pro is avaliable no problem, i have one on the way in fact, for less than any FX 5800 Ultra ive seen.
Sorry but all this is true. Some people who only use their machine for games may like it, thats fine but in the real world its just lame.
