Hello. I need help with yhe following priblem. I have p3 800,256 sdram,gf mx se 64ddr 250/333, drivers 45.23. directx 8.1, via apollo pro, winxp sp1, and in 3dmark 2000 i have 2850 marks , quake 3 at 40fps and major slowdowns in almost all games. The question is, is the mobo to blame, i know the specs suck but i guess i had to have more with this card(wich also sucks)
Were what i´ve tried so far:
format disk
tried almost all drivers for the card
via drivers 4.48
and a lot of other update.
Is this normal or can i improve perfomance without oc? Is there an issue regarding via apollo pro and gf 4 mx?
I apreciate you help because i´ve done almost everithyng and nothing so far.
Thanks

quake3 at 40 fps  what resolution is this? At 800X600, I could get that on a PIII450 with a TNT2 vanta a few ages back. I upgraded to a geforce2MX400 on the same board (440BX) and i could get 65 fps. Obviously the processor choked the card for power. Then I upgraded to a 1800+ and I could get like 180 fps odd ( with the same card).
Your config seems fine really ... try a bios upgrade for the mobo. My nforce1 for instance sucked initially. But it absolutely rocks now!
Try finding some benchmarks on the net for your mobo chipset too, should help determine if it is indeed the culprit.

what agp slot has this mobo ?
maybe agp rate isnt set to max in BIOS..
disable cpu l2 cache error checking (gains 2-5% cpu performance)
-check for background running programs
-set cpu timing for programs (not background services)
-try 30.82 detonator, they are DirectX 8 optimized
-install Memory interleave enabler for VIA chipsets
my Q3 benches:
45 FPS in Quake3 @ P3 700 Voodoo Banshee
69 FPS in Quake3 @ AMD 550 Geforce 2 GTS
84 FPS in Quake3 @ AMD 550 Geforce FX 5200
