drivers and the unified compiler??!!!
The drivers are down. .
This topic was started by goliath,
a friend said that updating my drivers from the leadtek winfast a350TDH LX drivers may damage the system. ignoring the advice i downloaded forceware 53.03 from nvidia. i was previously running the 45.32 drivers, which were done by leadtek. the gpu was reported as winfast a350. the card is now reported as NVIDIA geforce fx 5900; yet the winfox software that came with the card thinks that winfast a350 is still there.
when i had finished the installation the drivers seemed to be ok; BUT the gpu temperature is now up by 10C!! is this because of the new drivers using more capabilities of the card? or is this the drivers reporting the wrong temp?? this is remenescent with the catalyst drivers
ne way; i had 3d mark 3.3 installed and used to get 4700; after the 3.4.0 release i got 3800 with the leadtek drivers. updating to the forceware saw the score rise to 4600. y is nvidia making such a scene with the unified compiler, as its made no difference in my case. i may be an odd 1 out
now also in the new need for spped i used to get lag in 4x AA /8 AF mode; with the update i get periodic stops where the frame freexed; the rest of the time the game plays brilliantly with no lag. y is this and can i do nething?
thanks for ne help

No updating to Nvidia made driver will not kill or damage your GPU cuz leadtek is making their so call own driver refer to nvidia driver.
The heat problem may be a wrong detection by the software, try update the program. The driver itself may also cause this problem. Try newer or older driver. Just like the catalyst 3.8 for radeon 9800 pro, it increase the temp of the GPU but ATI has already updated and fix this problem.
lastly, The drop of the score may be cause the optimization that has been made by the leadtek, some may consider it cheating. Use real life game like halo instead using syntatic benchmarking program to measure the speed of the GPU.
Hopes it help.

yeah Squall said nearly everything
in most cases a manufacturer driver ist just a plain nVdriver with some changed icons and pictures BUT there are FEW cases what the cards clock rate differ from the reference model ... so the only thing you gotta do is check the default MhZ of your card and compare it with the referenz nV cards. if they are the same you don't need to worry about
and as reported on W2S the 3DMark2k3 update made the optimizations from nV useless until tehy updated their driver thats why there is such a big gap .. just check some other benchies you won't notice any real difference

Try patching the game. You can try the omega driver for your GPU too. I have use it for my Radeon 9600 pro and it is quite good. As long as you don't see any artefect (may be spell wrongly). That means it is not overheated. But try to keep the temp as low as you can.
Hey i am now busy playing need for speed underground too. Man i like this game. :D

i played need for speed underground for the last 40 mins. in the middle of the last race i got a total loss of the backdrop and everything aside from my car went white.
i quicly exited the game and looked at the temp. its 61C, so isnt overheating.
ne ideas coz im well mift
I seen mobility radeons 7500's do that at work.
