Bought some very cheap generic RAM recently, and it didn't like my Epox 8K5A2+ mobo - it had all sorts of exotic crashes trying to boot Windows when running at 333mhz (it was DDR2700 RAM), so I brought it down to 2100 speed by installing some (known to be good) DDR2100 in the next slot, and it booted XP but was very unstable, crashed randomly, didn't run intense games... am I right in returning this RAM as dead on arrival then?

Anyone else had trouble getting DDR2700 to run in this Epox mobo? It's def supposed to be able to run it... or is buying generic, cheap RAM really just pot luck and likely to result in dead or faulty goods being delivered..?

got another stick of 333mhz DDR from someplace else and it worked fine; must have been a dead stick...
