Hi,
had your problem too! For me, only 40.92 worked without lookups. I've seen your specs - i have a xp 1500 + msi board with via kt 266 and a gf 4200 ti- similar specs as you.
I've searched the net and after a long time I've found a solution. Well, I tried more than one tips at one so i can't tell you which did it.
1. make sure you have the latest via hyperion board drivers installed
2. search the net for "PCI Latency patch" (from George Breese) and install v0.19.
3. I use Det. 43.00 for Xp
4. goto the display properties and click the Geforce tab. next entry below "nView" ist something like "Performance / Quality" (don't know exactly since i have the german version). Make sure you ENABLE the Checkbox "Texture Sharpening".
Maybe you should try step 4 first, since i guess that was the problem solver. This may result in a small performance drop in games but hey - stability is better than performance (anyway, my next board will not be a via again). I had no crash for around 8 weeks now.

I have 41.09 and I can't start Splinter Cell up. Its the only game to do this : The screen turns itself off - it makes 2 little tiny beeps and goes black - Only will pressing "alt-tab" give me my windows screen with an error on it...
I have tried installing the most up to date for every single hardware and update every single software, flashing the mobo bios (latest). Format and re-install (fresh), Install the pci latency patch, detonator 43.00, enable sharpening texture but it still don't work. I am think of the video card's bios cause i am using 4.25.28.
if next time i were to buy a mobo, i will not choose VIA any more, i may go to nforce or sis although i am big VIA fan ( i am using VIA since my first PC ). VIA has just upseted me with their KT 266.
GOD pease safe me!!!!!!!!

I have a KT333 they are quite good - bar the fact there isn't any 8xAGP...
Oh and try not to go to SiS they have compatibility problems with a few Nvidia cards I hear.
