My motherboard supports DDR 200/266/333, I know they do not say 400 but, can the 400 work with it ?
If I set 100/100 for the bus of the cpu and the memory, could it work ?

CPU: Pentium 4 1.8GHz (100MHz FSB)
MoBo: ECS P4S5A/DX

i think the highest you can use is DDR 333 :-? then again im not sure cause i never tried it maybe its possible but you wont see much of an improvement, it is better to get the ram recommended where it can run perfect/stable and you can oc it a little rather than having to downclock which will cause instablity and lowered speeds

a majority of branded ram is guaranteed to be backwards compatible.

I'm using DDR 400 in mine but because I've only got a 266 processor it's running at PC2100 but at cas 2 rather than cas 2.5

OP
If in the BIOS I have the choice of 100 or 133 for the memory freq. Would the 166 choice appear if I put the PC2700 (333) mem. or if it isn't there, it isn't supported ?
I have an AMI BIOS if this helps.

it depends the mainboard chipset. 166 should appear if ur mobo supports 166 Mem bus regardless of the ram u use.

Most mainboards tho support higher memory speed modules but if the chipset is only rated to support DDR2100 then thats all the memory will run at.

But this does give ya scope when overclocking. As increases in the FSB wont overspec the Ram
