I've stupidly bought 2 x 512MB sticks of double-sided DDR RAM that can't be addressed as 1GB in the 4G4A, 786MB only seen
Can anyone recommend a mobo that'll take 2 sticks of double-sided DDR RAM? I've given up on the Epox and I'm cutting my losses
P4 board please, 2.3GHz CPU
TIA

Strange. The extrememly poorly written manual for the Epox 4G4A implies that you should be able to use two double sided DIMMs as long as you leave the DIMM 3 is left unpopulated (DIMM socket 2 and 3 being shared). This is true of other, similar, motherboards using the same chipset and bank structure.
Quotes from manual:
"Once 2 pcs of double-side memory modules are used, please install them in DIMM 1 and DIMM 2 to prevent any unstability issue happened."
"Does not support double-sided x 16 DDR DIMMs."
Check for BIOS updates which may resolve compatibility issues.
Are both of your memory modules the same brand and spec? Have you tried manually configuring the memory in BIOS?
P.S. Don't waste your cash on Asus P4G8X unless you like to flaunt with obscure hardware. Not only is this unit difficult to find, it is not offering much benefit over the 845 GE/PE chipsets. The AGPx8 still has bugs and will really not improve visual performance. If you are looking for a higher specced mainboard I suggest you try to get your current one operational until the next generation of Intel chipsets appear in the 2nd quarter.
ADDITION:
The main concern here is that if the Epox 4G4A should work with your RAM but does not, then you might be very upset after buying a new mainboard to find you have the same problem and it was due to faulty/incompatible RAM.

Thanks YngwieII - looks good that one

Yep that's exactly the problem
Check for BIOS updates which may resolve compatibility issues
Yep will do
Are both of your memory modules the same brand and spec?
They are, yes
Have you tried manually configuring the memory in BIOS?
I can't see anywhere to configure the slots in BIOS setup

Thanks, that sounds good

If it should work is the tricky bit, that manual entry is annoyingly ambiguous
Yep it's a nightmare, will swap the modules around and so on, thanks for your advice - techie type here but this one's got me going :)
