Is this a trick question? The fsb setting in BIOS will tell you the bus speed, the type of RAM will tell you the potential throughput. I am using PC3500 (DDR 400) which has a guaranteed throughput of 434hz (since it's DDR that means the highest fsb setting will be 217, doubled will give 434 at double data rate). What type of mobo are you using?
hi, I've got a similar question. I just had a KT400 mobo and bought myself some pc3200 RAM. But when I look at the motherboard settings the ram is only running at 333mhz.
Plus when I run sandra the ram score is really poor like PC2100

The default speed of the FSB depends on the processor model , old athlon generation use (133Mhz*2) 266Mhz (*2=DDR) and new generation (166*2) 333Mhz , so it depends on processor you have .
To go up to 400Mhz DDR a last generation Athlon with PC3200 RAM and a 400Mhz mobo (for example : via Kt400 or nvidia Nforce 2) are needed with good experience in overclocking coz it can be very hot 8)
I used years ago a tool which was running on DOS to get some extra infos about ram speed , maybe it still exists and can run on windows now , it was called amidiag made by AMI . To confirm ...

Sparkesy,
Just a little added note, your system will always run better when you have your fsb, and your ram running in sync.

try AIDA32........
at the bottom of list it has memory benchmark........
