changes to the mainpage!!!
30k Image, couldn't you have compressed it!!!!. I compressed it to 10k with very very little degradation of the image. .

since W2S is growing more and more it also got more and more cluttered and this mess should be cleaned up !!! there are so many functions at the mainpage that - I think - are not used because they are lost in all those masses of frames ... OK heres what I would say .... :
1. the preferences box

lets pull all together - its useless !!! its wasting space - I mean how often do you cange your preferences ? every day ? not that the box should no longer exist but in different location .... where it makes sense
--> in you profil - reached by Your_Account button at the top - this is perfect to be stored there ...
2. the Languages box
again useless ... :hmm: why ?
because a) if you are a noob to this site will you first look all sidebar to find out if the site is multilingual or not ? NO!
will you as daily visitor switch it every day ? and if yes not by clicking the german news at to right ?
--> language selection should be ALWAYS on ANY site on the top of the page to be seen at first sight !!! and since we all understand what flags mean its totally enough to put the 2 flags

3. the very first line should have word wrap to be dynamically cut or the affs should be arranged by those "|"
OK only small thingy not that important but its an improvement
4. very small change : just make the Awards box a bit smaller around 1 cm is wasted there ...
5. also very small change that I see right now ...
the newsboxes are alligned to the center between left and right frame with same space between both sides ... on firefox the left space is a bit bigger then right one ...
also the horizontal space between the boxes can be reduced to the space left or right
Done left and right side are equal
6. the Windows XP Internet Explorer 6 Post Service Pack 1 Updates Charts box
a) can't the "view chart" line be integrated into the pic next to it - we also do that on news and it would save 2cm
b)Both charts will be updated frequently. can be put into headline ... like
frequently updated Windows XP Internet Explorer 6 Post Service Pack 1 Updates Charts
and if not .... 1. SP1 is already out 2. pre is better then post 3. &
Windows XP & Internet Explorer 6 pre Service Pack 2 Updates Charts
Done by removing them - very positive effect in my eyes

this can be change by moving the Options box
those 2 options are accessable via mainpage !
its also fully enough to put the 2 icons into the headline again ... same as the language icons ... you won't search for those buttons if ya see them on first sight u may use them but if you do not you simple forget them

I think it would be much more senseful to make a line with all those stars and maybe a "rate" button (which is not needed since you can add script that directly votes when clicking one)
that got 2 advantages - first the comment area flips up 2nd that newspart comes down since there is one more line with those stars - oh and third the function would be used way more frequently ... again what you don't see is simply forgotten
10. back on mainpage the rate of an article shouldbn't be that ugly number it should be # of the stars given else this feature can be fully removed ? who takes the time to look that number ?

what would be W2S without our 2 Masters?
i´d like to say:
if degger is in time and if possible he can make the Mertsch-changes, maybe all or not and Degger may built a second W2S-site, but with another adress or something. On this Main-Site u will give a link to the new created site, with the all the same news of the original-site to see the difference and we gonna vote, wich site looks better,
everything only if possible

now it need soem fine tuning ...
1. for sure an account that automatically creates topic for news ... that has no signature and so on ... just write the one line ...
then anybody can post ...
2. more important a "light" version of forum is needed instead of viewing the full forum we need a "second" one without the header but basing on the same database ... which just shows the one topic ne more ne less ...
what do you think ?
