I've used a bunch of different burners, I think the Lite-On is probably you best value/performace, using the new Yamaha F-1 right now and its awsome but a little on the expensive side. Plextor is the benchmark for cd burners and can't go wrong with one but not cheap either.

definatly Plextor 4 quality and reliability and after sales service...
Currently using a Yamaha cdrw-f1 - another quality drive, Both on the expensive side but as said u get wot u pay for!
Lite-on are very good 2 for the price... doesnt matter what u get cos there pretty much all the same nowadayz - u cant go wrong.

I have a Samsung that writes @ 32x. I had a Creative before that.. They both never had a problem..
Plextor is a good CD writer. So you just buy that one.
Lite-on, if you are just looking for CD-RW. Cheap and solid.
and Flashable to run at higher writing speeds
