CD burner and DVD Rom drive
It's NOT a XP2000+ review!!! It's an XP1900+ being overclocked! Still a good read though :-)

For seemingly no reason, my machine stopped recognizing my DVD ROM and CD burner. I went to Device Manager and it gives my error 19 for them. It says my registry might be corrupted. I uninstalled both the drives and reinstalled them twice. My drivers are current. I even followed the directions in Windows help to change the Enum setting in the registry ( I don't remember exactly what this is called). Nothing seems to work. I am running a P3 933, 256MB RAM and Win 2K Pro. Can anyone help me out?

well, I was first having a problem with buffer underrun errors. For this, I tried to download the update for Easy CD Creator. Ever since I did that, I was having more problems with CD Creator. Then, last night I uninstalled Easy CD Creator and then that is when I started to get this problem. I should have mentioned that before.....sorry about that. I have never changed any master or slave settings. Those setting are whatever it came from the factory with.
... Do a registry cleanup... do not mess up with the registry... if you do not know what you are doing, it might get messy.. just an advice
this is pretty much what i want to do but i don't know how to clean it or what to clean. i can use regedit and I'm pretty comfortable with using the registry. I know to back it up before I make changes. what should i do with it?
Easy CD creator had some problems with Win2000 and XP so try to avoid it, best try another CD burning program if you have one. ...If the program is still installed unistall it clean the registry with a registry cleaner install it again , do not restart the machine before you install the patch then restart... and see what happens.... I hope you find it helpful
okay that sounds easy enough. any suggestions on what registry cleaning software to use. anything on hotfiles.com or downloads.com?
In www.jv16.org you can find a really nice free utility for that reason (registry cleaning , try it after you unistall the CD burning software
lol. i just wrote something asking you that. i guess you were posting it while i was. thank you very much for helping me with this. i really appreciate it. these forums are such a great resource.
Any suggestions on what cd burning software to use? what has worked best for you in your experience? remember i'm running Win 2k Pro. I'd appreciate anyone's input.
okay this problem is still haunting me. I cleaned my registry with the program from jv16.org. I deleted all the entries that it said were safe to delete and also the ignored ones that i recognized from adaptec. It still says in my device manager that my registry MAY be corrupted. Thanks for the info microsoft. anyway, when I uninstall the drives, does it delete all the registry entries? If not, how do I go about doing this? I'm not even sure if this is what I need to do. I am totally confused by this.....damn Adaptec. Any help would be appreciated.
i thought that my system may have just been installing the same drivers and that could be the problem so i'll try to delete the files in that folder you specified. i no longer plan on using adaptec anymore. if i delete every reference to adaptec in the registry and delete the driver files in the profile (the folder you specified in the last response), do you think that would fix my problem?
Alright I've tried everything I can think of (and everything that was suggested) with no success. I think I just have to suck it up and reinstall the OS. I can tell you that I'll never use Roxio or Adaptec products again. Thanks to everyone for their help.
