I know the title of this post sounds strange, but its true! Ive tryed endless combinations of dx9, VIA Hyerperion & CAT4.3s. All from fresh installs of XPsp1 but have been unable to sucessfully run the Catayst 4.3s with AGP set to x8, random lockups, screen corruption. Ive tryed adjusting the AGP voltage to 1.8, but it makes no difference the drivers just wont do x8 AGP
But if I use the Catalyst 3.2s I can use AGP x8 with no problems at-all! :-?
So whats your opinion, should I use the latest 3.4s with AGPx4 or the 3.2s with full AGPx8 ??
Thanks.

Definatley 3.4's @ 4x.
If you look around for benchmarks, there's practically 0 difference between 4x and 8x in current games. Maybe in the future with the likes of Doom3 you might find 8x giving a slight boost, but im sure there will be another driver or two released before then that should fix the problem.
On top of that the 3.4's have a heap of speedups and bug fixes for the 9xxx range of cards.

8X will be most effective in your videoediting, if you do that - up untill now games doesnt utilise bandwith beyond agp 4X

 thanks guys, does any1 have any idea why AGPx8 wont work with the new cats ??
agp 8x does work in the new cat's (3.4)
i think it's a chipset bug or mainboard bios being out of date or something like that
my sys specs
amd athlon xp 2800+
epox 8rda+ (nforce 2)
512 mb ddr (corsair)
hercules game theater xp
radeon 9800 pro 128 mb ddr

I hear that videocards can be a lot more stable at 4x - even 2x - and not lose THAT much speed. This true?

OP
It must be cos with the cat3.4s @ x4 agp, I have noticed no slow down.
I can only think that the new optimisations in the 3.4s, screw agpx8?
My motherboard has latest BIOS, about 4 older bioses ago there was a specific fix for Radeon cards, so thats been covered.

I've had no problem using the 3.4 driver's with agp8x so i don't think it's a driver problem.I use a 9700 non pro what are you using?
scorpious
i would guess that you have smartgart working and it sense no need for 8x.
